I learned all this on YouTube from cgpgrey. And calm the fuck dude. I don't expect you to know all 50 states or how they've changed over the years. It's always fun to learn though. I can even name all the provinces of Canada.

< American who's glad to finally understand this. Doesn't make us ignorant bastards to not necessarily know everything. Always glad to learn, without the pretentious schmuckery...

reading most of these posts from people who are trying to argue that Wales isn't a country and what not made me want to beat my face in with a globe. You all are the reason why the US education system is starting to fail. Because of your ignorance, instead of doing some research, you make the US look like were a bunch of mentally challenge 5 year olds. It's just down right sickening
pigpen -1 karmaSeptember 2012
In my defense, mentally challenged 5-year-olds are ADORABLE! :-*

Can I just mention the Falklands? No? OK...
darthal 0 karmaSeptember 2012
And Wight, don't forget Wight
tomo123ful +1 karmaSeptember 2012
then you have to mention all the other parts of the world that are still British.
SJH96 -2 karmaSeptember 2012
Yes, the Falklands, Gibraltar, channel islands and many other countries are also part of the United Kingdom
wellhellothen 0 karmaDecember 2013
Sorry I know I look weird replying so much later but the Falklands, Gibraltar etc. are part of the common wealth, not the UK

I hate being accused of being stupid for living in America, some of us have fucking brain cells over here, especially since I already knew this.

I don't know if anybody has said this yet but Im pretty sure that Wales doesn't officially count as a country as it's a Principality. I do know that it was lobbied for it to become a country but i don't know if this has happened yet. Feel free to correct me if it's been changed yet.
wakawa -1 karmaSeptember 2012Thumbs Up
Wales is a Principality. A Principality is a type of country. The only difference between a Principality and a Monarchy is that they call the head of state the Prince or Princess instead of King or Queen.
It's always been a country by itself.
You had silly info
deleted_user +1 karmaSeptember 2012
Even if you were right and Wales was a principality, a principality is a type of country. Have you ever heard of Monaco or Andorra, just two fine examples?

For you perusal, should you (s you inevitably will feel like) dispute this fact:

Wales is a country.
csestrada77 -1 karmaSeptember 2012
so there is a large government with smaller governments underneath. sounds like a country with states.
supatrollfaice 0 karma2 days ago
They're countries in a country and an island country.
SJH96 0 karmaSeptember 2012
Yes, but they aren't really states, more like provinces.
kdeeg103 -5 karmaSeptember 2012
i know that none of you will see this, and i know that it doesn't mean anything to you, but there are educated americans. i have been to all of these "countries" except wales. if you want people to accept you as a country, why don't you set acceptable standards. such as people in different "countries" not accepting the common currency. i was in Scotland where i received the "British Pound" in paper money. however, a shop owner in "England" would not accept this "british pound".
wakawa -2 karmaSeptember 2012Are You F*cking Kidding Me
You just disproved the whole "educated Americans" theory.
If you want, I could start correcting your grammar?
jakefell91 0 karmaSeptember 2012
Yeah this happens on the reg but it's down to some of the English not knowing whether or not you can actually accept Scottish currency. Technically it's all the same as long as it's not a Euro. Aslong as it has the word Sterling on it then it's fine. Working in a shop in England even though i know i can accept it i still question myself.
SJH96 -3 karmaSeptember 2012
Well that's the same with the Euro isn't it? There are 17 countries that use the Euro as their currency. Just because the UK, Gibraltar, Channel Islands and some other small countries use the Pound Sterling, doesn't mean it's all one country. It's all run by the same government and that doesn't necessarily mean the UK is a country, it's a Kingdom.
darthal -1 karmaSeptember 2012
Okay, whilst your point is valid there, That is to say the UK is not a country, it is a collective of three kingdoms, a small democracy with limited powers and a selection of extra territories, the argument you used just reads so stupidly i felt the urge to disagree with your inherently correct statement.
