My favorite is from an Arthur C. Clarke short story. The surface area of France is to the Earth as the surface area of the earth is to the surface area of Jupiter.
AddedThe story in question is "A Meeting with Medusa," and it is really awesome.

Submit it. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Regardless of the game's origins, it is still safe to assume that the names of the pieces have changed over time.
AddedAccording to Wikipedia, before being named the "Queen" it was called the "Vizier." Not sure where I got "Prime Minister."

I heard somewhere that in older versions of chess, the Queen was called the Prime Minister, don't know if that is true or not though.

Thrifty! Girls like to see that in a man!
bandgeek9723 +4 karma 3 weeks ago
Not only that, but it is also a repost. Said OP also claiming that it was real, only to realize later that it wasn't.

That was amazing.

As a cashier I take a young person buying a case of Natty Light as the first clue that they're underage.

Sorry your xkcd post got removed

And I would like to point out that the creator has his work under a Creative Commons License. Meaning, I can post it anywhere I like so long as I say where it came from, which I did. Quite frankly, the "comic" section is a waste of space as I know of no user who frequents it and the times that I have attempted to delve into its dark depths I have found the interface frustrating at best and impossible to navigate at worst.

Oakwood Starbucks on Saturday?
bandgeek9723 0 karmaApril 2014
My name is Joe, btw. May I assume that your name is Emily?
emilybemily 0 karmaApril 2014
Nah I just say that to throw people off. I'm Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All. Omw now

I love you avatar! And were you a marching band geek?
bandgeek9723 0 karmaDecember 2013
I was, yes.
bboops23 +1 karmaDecember 2013
I was a band geek in high school. I played the flute. Of course I was also an AV geek. Two of the biggest groups of people made fun of in 90's cartoons and I was both.

Bandgeek? What do you play?
bandgeek9723 0 karmaOctober 2013
Trumpet.
deleted_user +1 karmaOctober 2013
Badass. Flute here. Somedays I wish I chose saxophone or trombone, but I play a mean piccolo.
Amabo 0 karmaOctober 2013
Correct me if I'm wrong, but your user picture is from a 1900's talkies film is it not?

Don't mention it miss. [Tips hat] (Hmm, we don't seem to have a comment image at our disposal that does that. Someone should do something about that...)
cassiejaan +1 karmaOctober 2013
Don't get me started on all the comment images that new to happen.
bandgeek9723 0 karmaOctober 2013Watch Out
Sorry, didn't mean to touch on such a sensitive topic.
cassiejaan +1 karmaOctober 2013
Just sayin' (which, incidentally, should be a comment image.)
bandgeek9723 +1 karmaOctober 2013
Are you just saying that there should be a comment image for "Just Sayin'" or did I miss something?
cassiejaan +2 karmaOctober 2013
Yeah, there should be!
cassiejaan +2 karmaOctober 2013
Sorry, that was weird syntax..
bandgeek9723 0 karmaOctober 2013
If I might be so bold.
cassiejaan 0 karmaOctober 2013
I live in California, about an hour south of San Francisco.
cassiejaan 0 karmaOctober 2013
How about you?
bandgeek9723 0 karmaOctober 2013
Ohio.
cassiejaan 0 karmaOctober 2013
Cool! ...I've never been to Ohio.
bandgeek9723 0 karmaOctober 2013
You should come some time, I could give you the grand tour. We have... well not a lot actually. We have the US Air Force Museum which is cool and a whole bunch of stuff about the Wright Brothers. There are other things, but they're on the other side of the state.
cassiejaan 0 karmaOctober 2013
Haha yeah, it seems like everything I've heard about Ohio is about planes, spaceships, and your unspellable river.
bandgeek9723 0 karmaOctober 2013
That would be Cleveland's river and I can't even think of the name off the top of my head. The closest river to me is the Miami.
cassiejaan 0 karmaOctober 2013
Yeah, I'm not great at geography... Haha
bandgeek9723 0 karmaOctober 2013
So, what are you great at?
cassiejaan 0 karmaOctober 2013
Haha, um... I don't know! I teach filmmaking and digital video editing to kids.. I think I'm pretty good at that. How about you? What do you do?
bandgeek9723 0 karmaOctober 2013
I'm a writer, though I remain unpublished.
cassiejaan 0 karmaOctober 2013
What kind of writing do you do? ...I'm thinking about starting a nonfiction book about my family's experiences during the holocaust.
bandgeek9723 0 karmaOctober 2013
Fantasy and Science Fiction mostly, with a few pathetic forays into essays.
cassiejaan 0 karmaOctober 2013
Cool! Sounds like a lot of fun to write.
bandgeek9723 0 karmaOctober 2013
I'm guessing that your book would be very depressing.
cassiejaan 0 karmaOctober 2013
Parts of it would be, but my grandfather did escape from his concentration camp, get the girl, an make it out of the Netherlands to America.
bandgeek9723 0 karmaOctober 2013
Well that's good, for you especially.
cassiejaan 0 karmaOctober 2013
Yeah, cause I get to exist!
bandgeek9723 0 karmaOctober 2013
I have a collection of short stories I'm working on putting together for Kindle, all of Tickld will know when it's released, so keep you eyes peeled.
cassiejaan 0 karmaOctober 2013
Will do!
