9 Amazing Sci-Fi Concept Vehicles That Were Actually Made.

COMMENTS

Laser guns, teleportation, and time traveling cars. Science fiction leaves us with some awesome ideas. Ideas that are most likely impossible. But those impossible ideas can inspire real technological change. And luckily, there are enough insane engineers out there willing to turn these ideas into reality.

The following functional concepts, we owe to the ingenuity of people who just couldn’t give up on some of those crazy sci-fi ideas.

1. The 007 Espirit Submarine CarLet’s start with a spy car. Although a dated idea, this beauty demonstrates that engineers don’t always let things die with the story. It can’t transform from vehicle to submarine like in The Spy Who Loved Me, but Elon Musk, space alien creator of Tesla, and owner of a prop Espirit, plans to find a way to make that possible. Let’s hope he succeeds.

2. The Martin Jetpack
The words “jet” and “pack” propped up a lot in sci-fi. Usually squeezed together. I know what you’re thinking: “But this pack is HUGE!” To that I say, take a look at your computer. When those things first came out, they filled entire rooms. Give it some time. One day, even your robot dog will have a jetpack accessory.

3. Hot Tub Boat

The Hot Tub Boat. “In the water while on the water”, is a terrible advertising slogan for this idea. Not quite straight out of sci-fi, but a cool invention mash up nonetheless. Life would not be so bad, sipping a cold drink adrift on this thing.

4. The Flying CarYou know what, I don’t feel like driving anymore. I’m just going to go ahead, flip this switch, and turn my car into an airplane. A person being able to operate one safely is the only part that’s science fiction now. We have enough trouble handling ourselves on the ground.

5. Personal Submarine
Instead of space travel, what if we built new cities underwater? What if our kids got their sub licenses? What if we domesticated octopuses? Ok getting a little ahead of ourselves there, but the idea of exploring the ocean with your OWN personal submarine ramps things up.

6. SeaBreacher Extreme Leisure Submersible“Scared people today on the lake with my shark sub. Was pretty rad until I got harpooned. I still shredded 360° barrel rolls under the waves though, no regrets.” That’s what I imagine owning one of these is like. A high-speed, recreational submersible deserves its place on this sci-fi inspired list. Did I mention it comes in dolphin and killer whale?

7. Hidden Parking Space

Where better to store your Submarine Car or Flying Car, Mr. Bond, than this hidden parking space. Just like something out of a spy movie, it hides in plain sight. Then when you need to get groceries or something it reveals itself and your vehicle.

8. Water Powered JetpackI didn’t lie; this jetpack’s more compact already. And it’s propelled by water. And sure to scare the crap out of some fish. Of course there’s a giant hose attached to it, but when you're soaring in the air, with twin torrents of water pushing you up higher, who cares?

9. Diesel-powered Battle-MechThe most conceptual and also the most undeniably awe-inspiring on this list, we have the Battle Mech. Like wearing a really uncomfortable tuxedo, just several tons heavier and you know…encased in steel. This armoured mech promises full user control, and payback for when your parents said you’d never amount to anything. I’m actually a Battle-Mech Pilot, no big deal.
