The Bond Between Grandparents And Grandchildren

One thing grandparents love is spending time with their grandchildren. Getting to interact with and see the next generation of their family grow up is a beautiful thing. As a result, grandparents will take any opportunity they can to enjoy time with their grandkids. Most of the time, the grandparents will get permission from the parents before doing an activity of some sort.
However, that’s not the case for this Reddit user, who we’ll call ‘Jason.’ When Jason’s mother, ‘Amy,’ decided she wanted to hang out with her grandkid, she did it without getting permission from Jason. However, Amy and Jason don’t have an exactly normal relationship, and after not having seen her grandkids for many years, she was constantly flocking to Jason and Maria’s house to soak up as much time with them as possible.
Amy’s the type of person who thinks she does nothing wrong and should get whatever she wants when she wants it. However, Jason was about to teach her a much-needed lesson.

Meeting The Family

After serving in the Army and Special Operations Forces for over 10 years, Jason Myers was excited to be stationed near his hometown. He, his wife ‘Maria,’ and his two children, six-year-old ‘Kevin,’ and two-year-old ‘Peter,’ moved into a new house, much to the delight of both sets of grandmas.
This meant Jason was constantly having to put up with random visits from Amy. While he loved her dearly, there was no denying she was a bit of an oddball.
“She is scattered and typically has nothing useful to say,” describes Jason. “She likes to gossip, but she is the lady in the chain of gossipers that twists information and relays the wrong facts, or tries to convince me of things.”

A Seemingly Normal Day

Our story starts on a day like any other in the Myers household. Maria was in the middle of a shift as a nurse at the local hospital, and Jason was home alone with Kevin and Peter. After breakfast and placing the kids in front of the T.V. with a gripping episode of Paw Patrol, Jason headed upstairs to take a shower.
When he was done, Jason returned downstairs. It was when he noticed something was missing.

The Search Began

Peter was nowhere in sight.
“I asked Kevin where his brother was,” Jason recalled. “I got the typical shoulder shrug response.”
Jason began searching the house for Peter. Even after checking all the nooks and crannies in the house, Jason was unsuccessful in his first attempt. Panic began to set in as Kevin joined in on the search.
After several sweeps, Peter was nowhere to be found. However, there was one thing puzzling him.
How on Earth could Peter have left the house? The family lived in an older house, with some very old and complicated locks. Not to mention the height of the locks and doorknobs, way too high for a small kid like Peter to reach.
Completely confused and at a loss, he knew it was time to make an important call.

Making Some Phone Calls

Maria was understandably hysterical when Jason called, because who wouldn’t be if their child was missing? After doing around sweep under Maria’s instructions, Jason knew it was time to call the cops.
Lady: “9-1-1. What is your emergency?”
Jason: “I lost my son.”
Lady: “Sir. You lost your child?”
Jason: “Yes. I took a shower and now my two years old is missing. I have checked the house and he is not here.”
Lady: “What is your son wearing?”
Jason: “Thomas The Tank Engine shirt. Blue. Diaper.”
Lady: “Where did you last see him?”
As Jason relayed the information to the dispatcher, something outside caught his eye.

An Unapproved Trip

It was Jason’s mom, Amy. This day could not get any worse for Jason; first, he loses Peter, then he had to endure his wife’s anger, now his mom?
This was more than Jason could handle until he saw Peter nestled safely in his grandmother’s arms. Filled with rage, Jason quickly hung up the phone and stormed outside.
Jason: “WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING?”
Amy, calm and shocked: “What? I just went to the grocery store.”
Jason: “With my child. You took my child.”
Amy: “Yeah. I stopped by and asked if the boys wanted to go. Peter did.”
Jason: “You stole my kid mom. STOLE-MY-KID.
Amy, chuckling: “No I didn’t. I asked. Peter wanted to go. Kevin didn’t. I told Kevin to tell you.”

Starting To Plan His Revenge

Why Amy thought a six-year-old would be able to relay a message like that was beyond Jason. What made matters even worse was Amy didn’t seem to think she did anything wrong; Peter wanted to go with her and Kevin knew about it, so what was the issue here?
Despite being told about the torture of thinking they lost their child Jason and Maria had gone through, Amy firmly believed she did nothing wrong in this situation.
Still seeing red, Jason told Amy goodbye. Over the next few hours, Jason tried to think of a way to get back at his mom. Luckily, an opportunity presented itself.
Jason had a four-day weekend coming up, which was the perfect opportunity for revenge. Amy still had no idea the rage that was burning within Jason and readily accepted Jason’s offer of babysitting that day. The trap was now set.
After letting Amy in and getting her settled with the kids, Jason headed out to begin his revenge. Where was he going? Straight over to Amy’s house.
Finding the spare key, Jason let himself in and began his retribution.

Nothing Wrong With A Little Change, Right?

Changing things up is never a bad thing, right? It’s good to shake things up every once in a while to get a new perspective on things. Luckily for Amy, that’s exactly what Jason did.
“I reorganized everything. I mean EVERYTHING,” Jason recalled. “It didn’t take long to do the living room. I moved the couch. I moved the love seat. I moved my father’s chair. The coffee table. The TV. Everything gets rearranged. I even moved pictures from wall-to-wall and use sticky tack to hang them upside down or wonky.”
Jason even went so far as to steal every remote in the house. Satisfied with his work, Jason returned home. Soon after, his phone rang.

Amy And Karl Take Notice

Amy: “Did you stop by the house today. I think we were robbed.”
Jason: “Yes. I stopped by the house.”
Mom: “You rearranged the living room?”
At this point, Jason’s dad, Karl, had returned home and was confused by the state of his house.
Karl: “Amy, What did you do to the house?”
Amy: “I didn’t do it. Jason did!”
Jason grinned to himself as he heard his parents freaking out over the state of their house. The cherry on top of the cake was when Karl and Amy noticed all the missing remotes.
Amy: “Where are the remotes?”
Jason: “Oh. I took them. I called out your name. I thought you heard me?”
After explaining the situation with Peter to Karl, Amy and Karl both burst out laughing. Jason was willing to let the whole situation go but on one condition.

A Lesson Well Learned

All Amy had to do was apologize for taking Peter without Jason’s permission, and Jason would return the remotes.
Jason: “All you have to say is you are sorry for kidnapping my child and you won’t ever do it again.”
Amy: “I didn’t….”
Jason: “Ah. Ah. Ah. You want the remotes back? ‘Jason, I AM SORRY for KIDNAPPING your kid and I will never do it again.'”
Amy: “I am sorry for kidnapping Peter and I will never do it again.”
Pleased he had finally gotten his apology, Jason returned the remotes to Amy. It’s safe to say Amy learned her lesson, and will definitely make sure to ask Jason’s permission before taking her grandsons anywhere. Unless of course, she wants Jason to give interior decorating another go!
