What Goes Around, Comes Around
“My son and I were building sandcastles on the beach and having a good time. It was the first day of summer break for him and he was excited to be free for the next couple months before starting the 3rd grade.
After we had been building castles for a while, a random boy caught our attention. He was running around and throwing sand at people with a mischievous glint in his eyes. I told my son to ignore him, but my heart sank when I saw the boy approaching us. Without warning, he threw a handful of sand in our direction. I shielded my son’s face, but a few grains found their way to us.
‘Hey,’ I snapped. ‘Don’t do that!’
The boy stuck his tongue out at me before scampering off. I tried to look around to see if I could spot anyone who could have been the boy’s guardian, but almost everyone looked just as annoyed with him as he went around terrorizing other people trying to enjoy the beach.
Determined not to let it ruin our day, I wiped the sand from my son’s face and assured him that everything would be okay. We resumed building our sandcastle.
Within minutes, the boy was back. He clumsily ran over to my son and me with a handful of sand. Annoyed, I turned to the boy and told him once again not to throw sand. Of course, that didn’t do anything. I watched as the boy raised his fist full of sand almost in slow motion.
Then as fate would have it, a sudden gust of wind came off the water right as the boy threw the sand. The sand blew right back into the boy’s face and eyes causing him to scream. Coughing and spluttering, he desperately tried to rub his face and eyes. His hands, still sandy from his mischievous sand-throwing antics, only worsened his current dilemma. His mischievous smile transformed into a look of surprise and regret.
Karma had spoken.
My son and I laughed as the boy ran off crying. Then it was back to a lovely day at the beach!”
It’s All On Camera
“I decided one day to get out of the house by taking my dog to the dog park. The dog park buzzed with activity as dogs of all shapes and sizes ran around. I watched my playful pup, Buster, dart around, his tail wagging with enthusiasm. It was the perfect day. Not a single cloud was in the sky.
Then out of nowhere, I heard a commotion a few feet away from the water fountains. A middle-aged woman had her hands on her hips as she engaged with a clearly agitated younger woman with a Great Dane at her side. Between the two of them was a fresh massive pile of dog feces that could have only came from the mini-horse.
‘You need to pick up after your dog,’ the middle-aged woman scolded. Her voice wasn’t raised but it was stern. ‘It’s the rules.’
‘What makes you think this came from my dog?’ the younger woman snapped. ‘Obviously, there are other dogs here!’
Now with the exception of my dog (he’s a German Shepard mix) and another big dog, there was nothing but smaller dogs in the park that couldn’t have left the huge pile of turds. On top of that, the older woman claimed that she watched the woman’s Great Dane poop while the young woman was preoccupied with her phone. It could have easily been a misunderstanding, but the young woman refused to take any responsibility. The two of them went back and forth while other dog owners stopped in their tracks as their argument grew more intense. The out of nowhere, the younger woman started storming toward the older woman with her eyes narrowed and fists bunched up like she was about to hit her.
Jumping into action, I made my way over to the two women to break it up. That’s when the younger woman whipped out her phone and started recording everyone. She started spewing off how everyone in the park was coming after her because of the way she looked and how the old woman was being a ‘Karen’ for telling her to pick up dog poop that ‘wasn’t hers.’
However, karma had its own plans.
Oblivious to her footing, the young woman continued her onslaught. Unbeknownst to her, a tree root protruding from the ground lay in her path, waiting to teach a lesson. In a glorious twist of fate, the woman tripped while holding her phone and belly-flopped in the pile of poop. Horror replaced her anger as the reality of the situation sank in. Her pristine shirt was now tainted by an unholy mess.
The park fell into a momentary silence as everyone absorbed the scene. A few chuckles escaped. The young woman’s fury melted into embarrassment. Humiliated, she hastily grabbed her dog by the collar and retreated from the park, dragging the big guy behind her.
In the end, a kind random samaritan picked up the poop.
Then a beautiful day in the park resumed.”
Go-Kart Madness
“Almost ten years ago, I worked a summer job at a small amusement park that had small attractions like go-karts. Plenty of people enjoyed coming in and messing around with them. This was usually pretty harmless, but occasionally an extra rowdy group of teens would come in and terrorize little children. Most people would just accept their fate when we ended their rides early to prevent further damage to the track/karts and children’s birthday parties.
One time a group of young adults was pretty obnoxious about their intentions of ramming into each other. We kicked them out of the park after their second or third warning for being too aggressive on the track. They did not take it very well and began to berate and intimidate the park staff, including me. Eventually, the group got in their car to leave. Their tires squealed as they tore out of the park’s entrance…. right into an oncoming van. All of the vehicles’ airbags deployed. Glass and brake fluid leaked all over the pavement. Traffic was held up in both directions for forty-five minutes.
Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt, but the irony of the whole situation was not lost on us. Karma!”
Get Your Head In The Game
“I didn’t personally witness this but my son told me about it.
My fourteen-year-old son was at a local park playing basketball with some friends. But the joyous atmosphere was dampened when a notorious bully named Donnell stepped onto the court. Donnell was a coach favorite on my son’s basketball team, which fed into his massive ego. He was a tall and imposing kid, but even I had to admit he was a good player.
During the game, tensions ran high as my son and his team played against Donnell and a few random kids that joined in. My son was excited because his team was winning, but Donnell grew angrier by the minute. In a moment of pure malice, Donnell tripped one of the kids on my son’s team. The kid plummeted to the ground and scraped his knee badly. Instead of helping, Donnell retrieved the ball and dribbled down the court.
Once he scored a point, Donnell walked by the kid still on the ground and told him to ‘watch his step.’ He then started prancing around and gloating with his friends. My son didn’t hesitate to scold Donnell for his actions. He helped the kid up and brought him to a bench. Then the next play started. My son had the ball and was dribbling down the court with Donnell right on him.
And then, it happened.
Donnell failed to realize that his shoes became untied after he strutted around. In an act of poetic justice, he tripped in mid-pursuit of my son and tumbled to the ground. With only his face to break his fall, Donnell let out a pained yelp and started writhing on the ground in agony.
My son, worried about his teammate, called a ‘time out’ to help. Donnell looked up from the concrete, blood oozing from his busted lip. Then to make matters worse, another look at Donnell’s bloody mouth hanging in shock revealed not a busted lip, but a chipped front tooth.
At that point, the ‘friendly’ game of basketball was over. My son used his cell phone to call Donnell’s mother, grabbed his basketball, and came home where he told me the story. I remember being so proud of my son for being the bigger person, even though it must have been hard. I probably would have laughed. Actually, I did laugh when my son told me what happened, but when I saw his look of concern, I stopped.
He’s a good kid.”
