Santa Barbara residents were left exhausted as a flock of sheep invaded their neighbourhood, with over 300 counted by those who were able to stay awake long enough.
The 300-strong flock of sheep managed to get free from their field in Mountain Drive of Santa Barbara. With little regard for road safety or the resulting traffic build-up, the woolly free-range sheep took a walk. Hoping to find a few greener pastures, they casually made their way through the Cali streets.
“Early yesterday morning, over 300 sheep decided to take a little field trip near Mountain Drive. 🐏 Turns out, the grass wasn’t greener on the other side — but that didn’t stop them from trying,” The Santa Barbara CHP shared.
Locals were forced to stay behind the wall of sheep strolling through California. There was little anyone could do but wait for them to move on. It was up to the local farmer and the California Highway Patrol to round the flock up.
An Unlikely Excuse For Being Late To Work
It’s not every day that somewhere like Santa Barbara, California, has road closures due to a flock of 300 sheep. Anyone late to their daily duties will have had to snap a picture for the story to be believable. It’s hardly the most rural of areas.
“Our CHP officers quickly hoofed it to the scene and helped the owner round up the wooly wanderers, guiding them safely back home to their pen,” the CHP shared. Although how they managed to escape in the first place is still a mystery.
Nobody was hurt as a result of the 300 sheep taking a stroll through the neighbourhoods of Santa Barbara. But, I imagine there were a few delays to people’s days. Rounding up hundreds of stray sheep is no small task because they’re hardly the smartest or fastest of animals.
Before the sheep could be taken to safety, the owner of the flock had to be found. It must have been a surprise to find an entire flock of sheep had taken to the streets. It was going to be a long day for that farmer and his dogs.
