Whenever I go to a wedding, I get seated at the rogue table. It’s the one with the long-lost family members, the wild childhood friends, the conspiracy theorists, and the ones who were sucking on a liquor bottle even before the ceremony. I fit there, and take no offense at the wedding guests the seating charts put me with. But not everyone is as socially self-aware.
Getting a wedding together is such a heinous prospect, it can sometimes break up a relationship before the knot is even tied. There are thousands of details to sort. It’s essentially a day-long, choreographed party. So, little mistakes are bound to crop up.
Choosing seating arrangements for the dinner can be tough, too. Anyone who has hosted a party with friends from all walks of life knows the dangers. Some people will blend with anyone, others are abrasive, and some are shy. But at a wedding, all guests need to have seating.
There are bound to be a few people who might prefer to be somewhere else. But it’s not their big day, and even if the table arrangement isn’t ideal, a good friend or relative will suck it up for a few hours and get on with it. But, at the wedding of one bride and groom on Reddit, two of their guests were so unhappy with their seating at the wedding, they stormed out.
Wedding Woes
The seating plan for the couple’s wedding was carefully planned out, aiming to ensure all guests were happy. “We wanted to make sure everyone felt welcomed and got to enjoy the social aspects of our wedding. Not just be there to celebrate us. We also worked closely with our parents because a lot of guests at the wedding were their friends & family,” they said.
However, when looking through the wedding photos after the event, they noted two people were missing. Despite being invited, two of the guests didn’t show up in any of the pictures. So, they called them up to find out what happened.
Their mother managed to reach them. They, without shame, explained that they were put out by the seating arrangement at the wedding. They had sat down to eat the meal that had been paid for, and even stayed for the cocktails. Then, due to their offence, they left, refusing to stay for the ceremony.
I hope they let them know how gross that kind of behaviour was. At least they now know what type of people they are.
