Taking a loved one out for a meal is an act of kindness typically reserved for those with an income. But an 8-year-old has shocked her mother and the internet by paying the bill at breakfast.
The viral TikTok shows the moments just after 8-year-old Lani grabs the breakfast bill from the table. “I was confused on why she grabbed the check, because in my head I am like ‘Girl, why do you care? ” her mother told People.
But she got straight down to business. Looking at the total, she delves into her handbag and rifles through her crayons and reading books to find her cash. Pulling a $10 and then $20, she covers the bill with a tip.
“To be honest, I forgot she even had money put up,” her mother said. “But when I saw her pull money out, I was like ‘Whaaaaattt.'” Slapping her cash on the table, the young lady confidently paid the breakfast bill, treating her mother for the first time.
It was, understandably, an emotional moment for the mother. In a moment, she realised she had brought her up right. The 8-year-old surely has only a few dollars to her name. But, she was willing to possibly half her wealth to treat her mother to breakfast.
Good Upbringing Pays Breakfast Dividends
The 8-year-old’s mother was overjoyed to see her daughter so readily fork out for breakfast. “As her mom, I try to instill values like kindness and confidence in Lani,” Jenny explained to People. “I want her to always treat others with respect and empathy, and to believe in herself, no matter what. I think those two qualities are so important as she grows, and I’m proud to see her already living them out in her own way.”

There are plenty of people out there who will happily let people pay for them throughout their whole lives. It takes compassion and generosity to offer to give back. Of course, some of this is down to the nature of a person. But, in this case, I think some great parenting has instilled good values and kindness in the little lady.
She should be a very proud mumma.
