Some social faux pas’ are so cringeworthy, you wish the floor would swallow you up. Anyone who has ever asked ‘when it’s due’ to someone absolutely not with child, knows the feeling. The Rock had his own awkward moment when he mistook WWE’s Dwarf Hornswoggle for a kid.
Horswaggle has been a prominent name in WWE for some time, with several crazy storylines and wins under his belt. But, somehow, WWE superstar Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson didn’t recognise him. On his return to the show in 2011, The Rock breezed past Hornswoggle, mistaking him for a Make-A-Wish kid.
Many of the Make-A-Wish kids will come to WWE as their chosen event. John Cena is known for having met more of them than any other person. At this point, he’s basically the grim reaper. So, you would forgive The Rock for mistaking dwarf Hornswaggle for one of them. Apart from the fact that he looks like an adult, is wearing a suit, and is kind of a big deal in WWE.
Hornswoggle Brushed Off By The Rock
Talking on Chris Van Vliet‘s show, Hornswoggle looked back on the time he finally met The Rock. “He did a promo announcing he was gonna be the host. I was like, I’m gonna meet my buddy, Dwayne. I’m gonna be his best friend. We’re gonna have tequila and Zola energies.”
So, dressed up and ready to meet one of the icons of wrestling, Hornswoggle waited behind the scenes. “I am in a suit, like a legit suit, not my leprechaun outfit, with my gear bag, and I’m gonna meet him behind the curtain. As he comes through, in my mind, best friends. I see my buddy Dwayne come back through.”
But, The Rock, not paying attention, just dismissed the eager Hornswoggle as a Make-A-Wish kid. “I’m like, “Here we go! Hey, man, thank you so much for coming back. Thanks for what you’re gonna do for WrestleMania and what you’re gonna do for the company, and just glad to have you back. Good to meet you. My name’s Dylan,” he continues.
“He extends his arm out. “Did you have a good time tonight, buddy?” Taps me on the shoulder, leaves. And I go, “Oh no, he doesn’t realize I work here.” I was on the show before that.” Devastated, Hornswoggle realised what had happened.
The Rock didn’t deny it either. He came clean about mistaking Hornswoggle for a Make-A-Wish kid. “Rock thought you were a Make-A Wish kid, huh?” Big Show called him out the next week about this, and Rock goes, “Yeah, I did, I don’t watch the show.”
I think they should throw down in the ring to sort this beef out. My money is on Hornswoggle.
