When planning a robbery, it’s important to get a few things nailed down. Location, method, and timing are all key, but a getaway vehicle may be the most important one of all. However, after a thief robs a gas station, presumably down on their luck, they had to resort to escaping on roller skates.
For the most part, the robbery was a pretty clean one. A gas station had been picked out; it was around 7.30 pm, so the register had a whole day of cash in it, and the crook was wearing a face covering. They flashed a knife and a gun, and didn’t harm anyone. They emptied the register, and it was time to leave.
The one thing in this picture that was out of place was the footwear. They weren’t wearing boots or sneakers. They chose to rob the gas station in roller skates.

With pockets full of cash and feet filled with wheels, the gas station thief sped off. A police report from the scene summed up the situation.
“The suspect, who arrived and departed the store on rollerblades, was armed with a handgun and a knife in the front of his waistband. He demanded all the money from the register and threatened to shoot the employee if he did not comply. The suspect was last seen skating south on Old York Rd. with the money from the register.”
It’s certainly a novel way to rob a gas station, and roller skates might have been a great choice. They’re the perfect hybrid between being on foot and in a vehicle. The freedom of movement of walking is still there, while the speed of a vehicle is also available. I can see the appeal.
The crook got away with their gas station haul on their roller skates. Nobody was hurt in the robbery. The store clerk was shaken, but unharmed, and they were commended by police for keeping their cool during the ordeal. “The employee did a fantastic job remaining very calm, very deliberate in his actions,” the responding detective said.
