The admission to one woman’s DMs comes at a steep price on Hinge.
Online dating, despite being one of the most common ways to meet people, is a joyless slog. Endless failed connections, thousands of swipes, and the creeping realisation that we’re all shallow, mindless, cogs in a huge algorithmic machine, have utterly obliterated romance. But, there can be some fun dragged from the pitiful depths we’ve allowed ourselves to slip.
A woman going by the name Kathenn has created an entry requirement for her potential suitors. To be able to progress to a possible Hinge date, her matches must show off their best Tim Allen grunt. The results are fantastic. Men are either wonderfully unselfconscious or deeply desperate.
She has been kind enough to share a collection of some of the best Tim Allen grunts from her Hinge. And, I have to say, several of them are pretty bang on.

Urrrrrgh? Can I Take You To Dinner Now? UUURRRRGHHHH
I guess, as a way of breaking the ice, humiliating yourself with a Tim Allen grunt isn’t the worst way on Hinge. It’s certainly a lot better than most of the opening moves on the app. At the very least, it’s original.
If someone is willing to whip out that legendary Uurururgh sound before they even really introduce themselves, at least she knows they’re not taking themselves too seriously. The world of online dating can be a soul-crushing ordeal, and getting a few chuckles is the least we can expect.
Kathenn has 10 videos full of men trying the Tim Allen grunt on Hinge. It appears that people aren’t shy. But, I have to admit, I’ve been sitting here trying to nail it myself, and it’s actually a lot harder than it seems. It’s certainly given me a lot more respect for some of the hundreds of attempts she has collected.
It’s making me wonder if I should add something similar to mine. I’m thinking about requesting a Donnie from the Wild Thorberries impression.
