Airline security is weird with what you can and cannot take on board a flight, but one teen has gone viral after managing to transport 200 tortillas on a flight from Nashville.
On TikTok, Anna Jones shared a video revealing “All these people and no one knows I have 200 H-E-B tortillas in my backpack.” The video quickly racked up hundreds of thousands of views, with people wondering just what she was doing.
There was no issue with the hundreds of tortillas being on the flight. Apparently, flour tortillas aren’t a threat in any quantity. That didn’t explain why she had so many, though. I know in-flight food is either insanely expensive or foul, but 200 tortillas is a little much for a few hours.
As she explained to USA Today, the transportation of hundreds of tortillas on her flight home was a tradition. “We bring them home, and we can freeze them, and we just use them until they run out,” she said. “They normally last about two months.”
I can completely understand where she’s coming from, too. Some ingredients or foods are just not the same anywhere but in one place.
Intercontinental Ingredients
Many folks in the chat were bemused by her in-flight 200 tortillas. But it makes sense to me. I have been on the road for a number of years, and in that time have collected together a fantastic array of ingredients.
It began when I realised that most places I stayed wouldn’t have decent seasoning supplied. So, I began a small tupperware of spices and herbs while in Mexico. It was a great place to start a foundation. Then, I realised kitchen knives in Airbnb’s are appalling. So, one of those got added to my travel pack.
Over the years, I have amassed three Tupperware containers of herbs and spices. I also now have two kitchen knives as well as an Aeropress and a coffee grinder. The various seasonings are all country-specific and make life on the road so much more tasty.
So, I can sympathise with this teen taking home 200 tortillas on her flight back home. I imagine her family was delighted to have their region-specific wraps back in stock.
