A 9-year-old boy has somehow survived having an arrow penetrate almost all the way through his head, breaking through his skull, and puncturing his brain.
While carrying armfuls of camping equipment to the family truck, Gus slipped and fell on his gear. The boy ran inside after his accident, with a cut on his head. He was highly distressed, but his parents, not realizing what had happened, tried to calm him down.
Gus was being very dramatic, asking if he was going to die, which was out of character. “He had a very small cut on his head,” his father, Dave, said. He was also covered in blood. They had no idea the 9-year-old had managed to drive an arrow straight through his head.
“He kept saying. ‘Mom, am I dying, am I going to leave you? I don’t want to leave you yet,” his mother, Abby, told KARE 11. “And I’m like, ‘Gus, no, we’re just getting stitches.'”
Hospital Miss Arrow Impact
Still unaware that their son had pulled an arrow from his own head, the parents took him to a hospital. However, the initial doctor had some concerns and sent him to a larger hospital. But, they didn’t see too much to worry about, and sent him home.
Later, the 9-year-old finally started to show signs of having had an arrow in his head. Nausea, dizziness, and vomiting let his parents know it was time to go back to the hospital. Here, he finally got the care he needed.
Finally, he had scans, and they revealed that a tiny piece of his skull had been pushed into his brain. It had come within only centimeters of exiting on the other side. Somehow, no serious damage had been done, even missing the carotid artery by a hair’s breadth.
“It literally took my breath away and I felt, like, sick to my stomach,” his mother said when she found out how far the arrow had gone into her son’s head. “I couldn’t believe it, ‘No, that far, what?'”
But, somehow, he’s made a full recovery, and within only a few months, is back to his usual self. He’s either got a tiny little brain, or he’s going to develop superpowers later in life.
