A crazy man saw his opportunity during a house fire and stole a firetruck, running rampage around local neighbourhoods.
While a fire crew was attending to a blaze on the fifth floor of an apartment, someone couldn’t ignore those intrusive thoughts. The Everett Fire Department pumper truck was unattended, and the firefighters were too busy with the fire.
The unknown person hopped into the cab and made a run for it. The 35,000-pound fire engine was taken on a ride through Everett, Washington state. It already had a head start, too. It wasn’t until the firefighters wrapped up at the emergency call that they noticed the firetruck had been stolen.
But, by then, the carnage a huge vehicle like that can cause was already becoming evident. Numerous calls started coming in from residents of the area. They were complaining of an out-of-control firetruck smashing through the streets, obliterating cars.
The first call reported that two parked cars had been smashed by the vehicle before it made its escape. As the runaway continued, more calls started to come in. The thief had all the daring, but none of the driving skill, it appears.
Firetruck Felon Flees
Before the thief was done with their firetruck rampage, they managed to smash up at least 16 other vehicles with the huge engine. Disgruntled car owners called 911 to report the trail of destruction. However, it was impossible to find.
Thankfully, despite the clearly out-of-control driver, nobody was hurt in the wake of the truck. The only real damage was to personal property.
After the driver had smashed into a row of ten cars, they fled the scene, leaving no trace. The police have no idea who the suspect is, but they certainly left their mark across the landscape. The investigation revealed that the lunatic firetruck thief had smashed 16 cars to scrap, knocked over lamp posts, and trees.
The firetruck itself, worth between $500,000 and $1 million, was pretty smashed up. It had to be taken out of service, which is never great. But, for now, nobody has been caught, and police are still on the lookout for the rampaging lunatic.
