Pickles are gifts from the gods, and I eat them at every opportunity I can get. Seeing Selina Gomez sporting a pickle-themed birthday cake has raised her by orders of magnitude in my estimation.
Pickles in any form are delicious. I’ve eaten everything from the pickled cheese and pork of Prague to the pickled lemons of Morocco. They are all beautiful and unique and deserve love. They’re good for the gut, they last forever, and they’re the perfect accompaniment to a day of boozing or a high-end meal.
Recently, in a post celebrating her 33rd birthday, Selena Gomez let the world know she was a fellow pickle head with her birthday cake. The post itself didn’t reference the cake, a beautifully decorated green one sporting gherkin candles. But it didn’t slip by unnoticed.
She spoke about her Rare Impact Fund. “We launched the Rare Impact Fund with a simple goal: to help more young people around the world feel seen, supported, and cared for,” she posted. “Since then, thanks to your support, we’ve reached over 2 million young people and supported 30 incredible organizations around the globe.”
People Are In A Bit Of A Pickle
Despite not mentioning the pickle birthday cake, people in the comments couldn’t help but say something. Evidently, not everyone is as big a fan of pickles as some of us. A gherkin-adorned cake isn’t for everyone, but I wouldn’t say no.
“Not sure but ‘pickle-themed birthday cake’ just sounds wrong,” one trogladyte posted, clearly not as impressed as I am. Several other people popped up, also confused as to the theme of the cake. I doubt that the cake was also pickle-flavored, although it could be done. Stranger cakes have been made.
Not making her birthday all about herself, pickle queen Gomez was excited to mention the next steps for her mental health fund. “We just launched the Rare Impact Fund Giving Circle – where people can come together, pool their resources, and support organizations doing life-changing work.”
I hope she had a wonderful birthday, full of pickles and joy.
