Seeing someone without a beard for the first time is always so strange. Even someone as handsome as Jason Momoa isn’t exempt from the post-shave image shock.
As a publicity stunt for his low-emission, zero-plastic water company, Jason Momoa has shaved his beard off. It’s a shock, to be sure, and he looks completely different. According to his post and video, it’s the first time in seven years he’s been clean-shaven.
It’s all for a good cause, though. His four-minute video explains how much of a problem plastic waste is. He is seen hiking through fields of empty discarded bottles. “I think 2012 is the last time I shaved,” he said, walking through the bottles. Continuing, he says, “I just want to do this to raise awareness that plastics are killing our planet — and I think I have a solution. I don’t want to bitch about it. There’s only one thing that can help our planet and save our planet, as long as we recycle, and that’s aluminum.”
Bye Beard
After a shave, I have to say, Jason Momoa looks quite a bit older, but no less beautiful. Sans beard, his face is all on show. He would have probably had to get rid of it for the upcoming Dune film anyway, but at least this ties it to a good cause.
“Haven’t shaved in six years, and here we are again. I launched @mananalu to help eliminate single-use plastic. Now, we’re taking it even further, partnering with our team at @Getboomerangwater to bring in a closed-loop system that sanitizes and bottles water onsite,” he shared on Instagram.
It’s been a long time since anyone has seen Jason Momoa after a shave, without his beard. The last time was in 2011 during the filming of Conan the Barbarian. he was significantly younger back then, and the fresh face he covered up has certainly aged.
But, he’s aged like a fine wine. As someone who’s sported a beard for years, it takes courage to go shaven. It completely changes a face. He will have a shock every time he looks in the mirror for a while, I expect.
