You’d never think a love story this real and more powerful than Romeo and Juliet could exist, and yet here it is.
Apparently, in Croatia, one stork couple’s love doesn’t know distance or time. Male stork Klepetan flies back home to his poor, handicapped mate every year, and their story began more than 20 years ago. Stjepan Vokic was a local who noticed the female stork, Malena, was injured by hunters. He decided he’d take in and care for Malena and she remained on Vokic’s rooftop, where she’d eventually meet her soulmate Klepetan.
Due to Malena being unable to fly, it came as a surprise that her mate was willing to fight to make their love last. Her mate Klepetan migrates to South Africa at the end of each summer, but he always makes sure to come back home to check on his love the following spring.
Their love even produced a happy little family right in Croatia.
Klepetan and Malena show there’s someone, or some-bird, out there for everybody, and maybe they’ll travel the distance for you too.
