“My school was under major remodeling my freshman year. The culinary arts building was 3/4 complete when someone didn’t make sure the propane line was completely off after testing. The error wasn’t discovered until another someone decided to break the law and light up a smoke on campus. KABOOM!
I was on the other end of the campus. It felt like a weapon fired next to you in the middle of an earthquake. They felt the blast at the elementary school about 8 blocks away. The Smoking Man had 2nd and 3rd degree burns all over his body but somehow survived. Luckily, that side of the campus wasn’t being used so there were very few casualties. We ended up getting a week off while the district fixed the damages to the rest of the school caused by the blast.”
The Sick Kid
“A student at my school was the first person in the entirety of my country to contract swine flu back in the peak epidemic of swine flu. They caught it on an overseas holiday and unknowingly brought it back with them. They started to show symptoms and a few days later a few of their classmates started to show symptoms. As soon as the health authorities realized it was swine flu, the whole school got sent into lockdown for two weeks. Every single student was not allowed to leave their house, along with every single family member who lived with them during this time. People were asked to get food and supplies delivered and left outside their front door, and not to let anyone into their house. This all made national news and my school gained an unfortunate nickname. My family wasn’t locked down, but from what my friends said who did experience it, they all went stir crazy locked in their houses for 2 weeks with the same people.
This all happened the year before I started school there but it was still a hot topic of conversation all the time. Two years after it happened word came out that some of the leadership students in the school had actually ignored the lockdown and went away on a secret camping trip during the two weeks. School went psycho and stripped them of all their responsibilities and didn’t let them attend their graduation. Their parents got fined by the health authority for letting them go away and keeping it a secret, and the school was once again all over national news.”
The School Infamous For Incidents
“Our rival high school had a lot of ‘incidents’, like the infamous Broom Stick Incident. Bunch of senior baseball players ambushed a freshman player in the showers after a game and sodomized him with a broomstick handle in a hazing ritual. I don’t remember if the poor kid died or not, but he was laid up in a lot of pain. The kids went to juvie.
About 5 years later there was the Underwear Incident where an assistant principal (female) was forcing female students to lift their dresses to see if they were wearing thongs. She claimed it was to ‘ensure appropriate school dress.’ Surprisingly she was only demoted to a teacher because of it.
Two years later was the Noose Incident. As you might have guessed, a noose was found inside the school’s performing arts center along with some written racial slurs on the walls. The administration eventually labeled the whole thing a ‘misunderstanding’ and no action was taken against the student responsible.
Not as bad as the others, but the following year some students were able to hack into the school’s website and were changing grades or obtaining and distributing copies of upcoming tests to other students. They eventually caught those involved.
The latest incident involved some kid or kids covering the campus with threats that the school would be shot up at a specific time and date. They also had messages saying stuff like ‘The innocent will die,’ ‘The next American tragedy,’ and ‘Florida was nothing.’ Luckily that didn’t happen.
That school was kinda messed up. It was also is in a fairly affluent neighborhood. Very often the rich are more messed up than the poor kids.”
The Crime Spree
“I was in 11th grade, he was a year before me I believe. He along with 2 other guys lured a gay guy out with Grindr to a trailer park. Once there they beat him and bound him with duct tape and forced him into the trunk of his car. They drove a couple miles down the road to an abandoned house, where they continued to beat and stab the poor guy. I believe the police said the victim died by choking on his own blood. They stuffed his body in the crawl space of the house, then stole whatever he had on him.
From there, they took his car, drove up to Illinois (they were going to Chicago on a ‘vacation’), and tried to use one of the dead guy’s cards to withdraw his money at an ATM. They also pawned a ring the guy had gotten from his grandmother, before finding another abandoned house to crash out in Chicago.
THEN they decided to rob a pizza delivery guy. The pizza guy winds up being the owner, as well as a former NFL Linebacker AND an Illinois state senator. He beats them off of him. They try to run off in their stolen car, and he gets in his car and chases them down until they crash and fled on foot. They were found and arrested soon after.”
The Prank, The Pregnancy And The Punch
1) Senior prank 2009, four boys (all teachers’ kids) cut down all the trees next to the high school. They didn’t cut them all the way down, though. They pretty much just cut them in half. Cameras caught everything. They ended up being arrested, suspended, and unable to participate in graduation.
2) A girl got arrested in the middle of my senior history class for selling weed. Apparently, she dealt out of the handicap stall in one of the girls’ bathrooms and hid her stash in the ceiling tiles.
3) Two pregnant girls (both probably around 7-8 months along at that point) found out they had the same baby daddy and duked it out in the hallway during passing period.
4) My freshman year, a coach got a student pregnant. He was fired. My senior year, he was hired back because ‘our football team needed him.’
5) A guy in my class had SEVERE anger issues. We were pretty sure he was beating his girlfriend. Anyway, she broke up with him. Used to see him crying in class and in the hallways a lot, but no issues other than that to my knowledge. Then, she got a new boyfriend. One of his close football buddies. He Lost. His. Mind. Upon finding out, he immediately went to the class they were both in and tried to open the door, only to find that it was locked. So he punched through the security glass. His hand was cut up and bloody, but he still managed to open the door. Due to the quick thinking of the teacher, and the guy’s apparent sudden realization that he had royally messed up, he stopped his rage and the administrators and police officers were there before he could hurt anyone. We still aren’t really sure what his intentions were, but he was suspended and had to do court-mandated anger management classes.”
The Friendly Coach
“The football and track coach got impaled by a pole at the stadium as he turned around to say goodbye to a student while he was on his bike. It was a yellow pole that was sideways, it was used to close the entrance so cars couldn’t come through. I guess it was halfway closed and he just happened to hit it. Sadly, he died at the hospital.
I was on his football team that final year. We didn’t win a single game that season. My dad forced me to do football, and Coach Adams could tell I was one of those kids, so he didn’t care I never tried. He was the nicest man I ever met. I remember walking home all the time, and he rode past me on his bike saying ‘Have a good night, insert my last name.’ I also remember having to use his phone, because my dad took away my phone. And he was more than happy to help me out.
It sounds like I knew him really well, and despite him also knowing my older sister quite well, I didn’t know, not at all. I was just another kid on the team to him, but that didn’t stop him from being super cool.
The last time I saw him in person was turning in my gear in the morning. I remember marching to his class, glad to be done with the season, and he told me ‘If you decide you actually wanna do this again, you gotta get tougher!’ And he said it in a way, that he was being cool about it, yet honest. I remember saying ‘Sure thing,’ signing my name on the sheet for the gear, and getting outta there.
I remember going to school the day after it happened and walking into first period, seeing my SCIENCE teacher, who didn’t know him, crying. I saw two other fellow athletes on the team, also crying. I remember thinking ‘Should I be crying?’ I felt bad because I didn’t.”
The Dead Body
“A dead body was discovered dismembered behind our middle school back when I went there. I live in a town where nothing ever happens so this was such a big deal. Being middle schoolers, some people tried to scare others by saying the police threw out the body in one of the cafeteria trash barrels and that got people really freaked out.
From what I remember it was just some crazy guy that did it. The victim was pretty old I think. He got caught pretty quickly. Also, the murder didn’t even take place in my town, they just dumped him here.
The story is pretty tragic. The victim had a restraining order against murderer because he was pretty sketchy. Murderer violated the restraining order by going over the victim’s apartment and refusing to leave. Concerned, the victim tried to call the police and that’s when murderer snapped and hit him in the head. The murderer was easily caught because there was video evidence of him going into stores turning in the victims scratch card and buying trash bags and other items similar to what was found at the dumping site.”
The Small Town
“It’s worth mentioning that I grew up in a small town, about 1,500 people. Everyone knew everyone and for the most part, everyone grew up together.
Freshman year: a Junior was found after a party, dead. She had overdosed and everyone said they thought she was sleeping. Side note: about 6 years later her youngest sister overdosed on the same junk, she also died.
Also Freshman year: a guy in my class was found by his mom in a tent with a needle in his arm. He had overdosed overnight.
Sophomore year: a Junior got mad at lunch and broke his tray. He stabbed another kid with a sliver of the tray before he could be subdued.
Junior year: 4 Seniors were out partying one night. They were wasted and drove over a dangerous stretch of road where accidents happen frequently. They wrecked and the driver was the only one who survives. He was charged with 3 counts of manslaughter.
Junior year also: There were rumors about a senior dating the computer teacher. Both she and the teacher denied the rumors. About a week after she graduated they got engaged. They are now married and have 2 kids.
Senior year: The PE teacher is rumored to be hooking up with female students. About 3 months after the rumor started the PE teacher quits without notice and moves. No one has a clue what happened to him but it’s rumored that evidence was found against him and he was running before they charged him.”
The Arson Threat And The Snake
“My friend’s little sister (let’s just call her Zoe) got ticked off at something and joked on Facebook that she was going to set the school on fire. Zoe claimed she had no intention of actually doing so, and that it was just a joke, but someone ratted her out anyway. I got to school the next morning, and the chief of police was walking around in the commons area where we all gathered before school, and there were groups of teachers lingering around every door. Zoe got suspended for that one, and the poor girl that told the authorities almost got her face kicked in by Zoe’s friends.
I also have a lot of ridiculous stories about animal-related incidents during school.
For example, my band classroom had an outside door, and my teacher often left the door open because you could get a good breeze going. We also had these ‘lockers’ which were basically just cubbies with wide bars that didn’t actually lock, and most of us just left our instruments put together in said locker after class.
Apparently, a snake slithered into my friend’s clarinet when no one was in the room. My friend tried to play her clarinet and nothing happened because the snake was blocking all the airways, so my teacher stuck his baton up the end of the clarinet. That snake shot out of there like a bat out of you know what, everyone screamed, and the snake went through the open classroom door and into the school. They spent the whole afternoon trying to find it, but it seemingly disappeared. They never found it”
The Unsuspecting Students
“Two of my high school teachers told me these 2 stories.
1) My English teacher told me that some years before I was in her class she had this one kid who was tall and kinda big but he was quiet and never caused any trouble and did his work for the most part. Well, one day he comes in with his hand wrapped in bandages and when asked what happened he gave a non-committal answer. Flash forward a couple of weeks and the kid hasn’t been in class for about a 2 weeks and she asks the class where he is. All the kids get quiet and one kid pipes up: ‘He was arrested for beating and violation a girl, he’s going to juvie.’
2) My science teacher Mr. B told me this: he had a student, a girl, who was a hard worker and had a good attitude and was well behaved but within the span of a few weeks, her grades began to drop and she began to act out. One day she blew up at another student, so Mr. B took her outside and asked her before he wrote her up: ‘Is there anything going on?’ She just broke down and told him that there was a dead body under her bed…come to find out her mom had killed her (the mom’s) boyfriend and hid him under the girl’s bed and she had been sleeping with a dead body in her room for a couple of weeks. I’m unsure how long the body was under the girl’s bed, I was told these stories 6 or 7 years ago.”
The Big Kahuna
“This year my school has gone completely nuts. At first, we thought that it was funny how many weird things were happening, now it’s just kind of sad.
In the first week of school, our cafeteria lit on fire and we had to evacuate for an hour or so. (Our campus is so large that even if it was a more extreme fire, most of the school wouldn’t be touched.)
A sophomore bully got beaten up with a baseball bat and broke his skull. An ambulance came and the following day we all had a moment of silence for him. He was a jerk but I can’t say he deserved it.
The big kahuna – two weeks ago our school went on code red because of an intruder in the building. We all took cover under desks and in the corner (our school’s safety protocol) and waited until the code (what we thought was a drill) to be lifted.
All of a sudden on the loudspeaker we heard something along the lines of ‘code red, code red, this is not a drill.’ After a while, we heard shouting in the hall and people yelling. From farther away we heard loud pops and more yelling. It turns out that three gunmen had entered our campus. Thankfully the police and security officers took care of it and nobody got hurt.”
The Attempted Murder
“In middle school, a couple girls did badly on a test and decided to kill the teacher over it. They put a bunch of chemicals in her coffee while she was out of the room, she had to be hospitalized, but thankfully recovered, though she quit teaching. The girls were arrested and charged and I think spent a couple months in juvie before just being transferred to other schools. A friend of mine went to the same school as one of them for a while and no one there knew about the attempted murder, my friend was shocked when I told her.
In high school, it was when it was discovered that the weird kid kept a blowtorch in his locker and never gave a real reason why. There was a stabbing but that was the year after I graduated.”
“My school had a bunch (mainly after I graduated):
1) My friend was caught for changing grades on the computer in exchange for cash.
2) A teacher who was very popular was caught having relations with several female students.
3) In the 2017-2018 school year, a teacher was honest in saying that the school didn’t have an updated plan in case of an active shooter. He was suspended and the student body protested.
4) Westboro Baptist protested the school. The students protested back. We live in NJ. It’s a big town, very LGTB+ friendly, gay-straight alliance at the school. Still , don’t know what reason or reasoning they used to decide to protest the school. Anyways, my brother took part and had a great sign. ‘Drew Barrymore is tolerable in small doses.'”
The Accidental Bomb Threats
“There was that one time someone brought a live nail bomb into history class. The school was evacuated to the soccer field for 5 hours. I remember the bomb squad trucks and guys rushing in while the teachers tried to distract us by playing games.
There was also more than one incident where a kid threw a cup of urine on another kid.
Just another day in New York public schools.”
The Hammer Of The Gods
“Someone from the sophomore class in high school used a hammer to smash the back of the head of a junior who was bullying him. Dude ended up hospitalized there was a lot of blood or so I heard. This was a bit after the first Thor movie was released so people jokingly referred to the perpetrator as Thor.”
“‘I survived Bomb Threat 1999.’
I was in Grade 12 in 1999. A few weeks after Columbine, we had a bomb threat called into our Canadian school. Everyone freaked. Lots of kids refused to go to school on the days after the threat was made. We had undercover police officers all over the school, which was hilarious because adults we’d never seen were carrying backpacks around trying to pretend to be students.
A couple of my dear friends made up a stencil of a weapon scope and put them on T-shirts, complete with blood spatter and the phrase, ‘I survived Bomb Threat 1999.’ And sold them to fellow students. It was in terrifically poor taste and was completely funny to my teenage mind.
So, that. Or when the French teacher was caught sleeping with a student and was subsequently run out of town.”
“A friend of mine and his idiot associate set the school on fire.
My high school was built in 1885 and the basement was full of antique desks, furniture, textbooks, football equipment, etc.
They had stolen a blowtorch from the tech wing and were lighting stuff on fire.
Stupid associate dares my friend to light a t-shirt and throw it on an antique wooden coat rack. Friend says no so the idiot associate does it himself.
It went up exactly like you think a 90-year-old coatrack would go up. The entire school had to be evacuated in the middle of January in -30 Celcius weather.
My friend was expelled, convicted of mischief and given a suspended sentence. The idiot associate was convicted of arson, mischief, and did some time in Juvie.”
