The Rebel Without A Cause Is Back
In a somewhat shocking announcement, a Hollywood studio has gained permission from James Dean’s family to resurrect the actor for an upcoming Vietnam war epic.
The director told the Hollywood Reporter: “We searched high and low for the perfect character to portray the role … which has some extreme complex character arcs, and after months of research, we decided on James Dean.”
Which seems a little strange.
Dean died at age 24 after crashing his sports car in the California desert. He had stared in three films and had become an icon of teenage rebellion. How the actor would feel about being brought back from the dead is another matter. After facing some backlash, directors Anton Ernst and Tati Golykh noted they had looked all over for an actor for the role but decided that Dean was the only one who could play it. The film, Finding Jack is based on the existence and abandonment of more than 10,000 military dogs at the end of the Vietnam War.

It will be interesting to see how audiences react to the new CGI actor. If the film is successful it may trigger a new era of CGI actors appearing in films. What is dead may never die.
