A woman recently reached out to the community to ask if she was being unreasonable in her response to not being given a seat upgrade to sit with her partner.
The post, which originally appeared on Reddit, highlighted the situation. Her partner’s mother worked for the airline, and so, she, her partner, and his brothers were able to fly for free. The flight was a long haul, with 14 hours in total, but they weren’t paying.
Initially, they were placed in economy seating. But, as she pointed out, the flight was free, and they were all okay with it. However, when they went aboard, her partner and his brothers were given an upgrade, leaving her to sit alone.
The post she made highlighted that she was upset that her partner had taken the upgrade and left her alone. She was also upset with his brothers for not giving up one of their seats for her. To add to the whole situation, she also claimed she was grieving.
She claimed a friend had lost their daughter, and she said it was weighing on her mind, adding to her desire to be by her partner. “I didn’t want to speak to him when we landed, but I told him it was a big deal to me,” she said. She claimed that she “never wanted to travel with him again.”
Free Flights And Upset About An Upgrade
But when we get into the actual situation, it seems like she’s being pretty unreasonable. She openly admitted, “Even if he’d offered to stay, I would’ve insisted he take the upgrade, but he didn’t.” So, her reaction, making him feel terrible for the whole flight, was for nothing.
As for the grieving part, it seems like she was just using it as emotional blackmail after her partner got the upgrade. In the comments below, she admitted she didn’t know the dead child in the slightest. The kid was not that of a friend, only a colleague, and she had never met them. It seems like an unnecessary detail used to garner sympathy.
I think she was simply upset because he didn’t even ask if she would mind if he took the upgrade. She felt left out and didn’t want to be sitting alone, which is justified. But life’s like that sometimes.
