Having a graduation from kindergarten is already weird enough, like, how can you fail? But the draconian rule this one kindergarten imposed on parents made it even weirder.
In a completely bizarre move, the kindergarten made a rule that parents only clap once for any child when they went up to collect their award. That’s one singular clap. One. What is even the point of a single clap?
The obscene level of control was enforced right up until the end. When all the children were on the stage, the parents could clap to their heart’s content. This obscene rule had little explanation. People have their theories, but I can’t say any of them make much sense beyond weird power trips.
Speculation Over One Clap Kingergarten Graduation Rule
The video shared on TikTok shows the silent room as each little person heads up to collect their award. The child steps onto the stage, receives a ‘graduation’ from kindergarten, and a single clap rings out, permitted by the rule.
It’s the kind of behaviour robots will one day perform as they replicate the actions they once watched us do, unaware of their meaning.

Some people have wondered if the kindergarten one-clap rule is to protect the feelings of kids with less family. If one kid has brought a small army of supporters, their raucous applause might belittle the kid with only a single parent.
But, I remember, as a child, receiving any award, I didn’t care about the amount of praise from the masses. All I had was a mother in the crowd, but her cheers at any occasion rang louder than a stadium. Trying to save the presumed feelings of a few kids by turning the whole event into some nightmarish, inhuman event is so out of touch.
I think this is just another case of overpandering, hyper-sensitive people in a place of power trying to please the masses to the point of failure. In trying to create an inclusive zone, they have deadened an event that is supposed to be loud and exciting.
A graduation from kindergarten is already obscene; what kid doesn’t graduate? Adding a rule that turns the kindergarten graduation into a bland, sorry affair only makes it even less memorable.
The fact that people obey makes me sick to my stomach.
