When Elena Ricci found out her boyfriend of three years had killed himself, she was devastated. But, a few days after he died, she received a to-do list of things he wanted her to do after his suicide.
In July 2022, 26-year-old Chirag killed himself, leaving behind 29-year-old Ricci. But, before he died, he wrote her a suicide note in the form of what she refers to as a ‘yes list.’ This long list of 101 items is things he wants her to do after his death.
Initially, and understandably, she was angry and in disbelief at the selfishness of the act. But now, three years later, she has decided to dig into it. There are 101 listed activities on the suicide note, and she plans to get as many of them done as she can.
It’s like palming off a bucket list, I guess.
Dreams Of The Dearly Departed
The list was composed of 101 things that her ex-boyfriend hoped she would do. According to her, it was to ensure that she was able to live on after his passing. I mean, they were in their twenties, and it was only three years. I’m sure she would have moved on just fine without his forced involvement post-mortem.
50 of the things on the suicide note to-do list were things they planned to do as a couple. And 51 were things she had mentioned she wanted to do alone. Despite the strange gesture, Elena Rocci has been working her way through and has achieved several of them.
One of the items on the suicide to-do list was, “Enjoy your birthday again.” This not only implies that her departed boyfriend knew about the pain that he would cause her, but that he knew it would take years for her to heal enough to enjoy something like her special day. She claims that, for the first time in two years, she has been able to.
Her boyfriend has ensured that she never properly deals with her grief by giving her a years-long list to complete that will endlessly remind her of their time together. She should scrap it and write her own, apart from his cloying grasp from beyond the grave.
