The family of the man who was pulled into an MRI machine by his chain is claiming that the fault lies with the technicians.
When the wife of 61-year-old Keith McAllister went in for a routine MRI scan on her knee, he went with her. Of course, the technicians had checked to ensure all metal had been removed from her body before the scan. However, Keith was wearing a huge 20-pound chain around his neck.
The large metal necklace was intended as a form of workout, adding extra weight for the day. And, outside of the MRI room, it was safe to wear. But it should never have been allowed inside the room. According to the family, the technician even commented on the heavy piece of equipment.
When the scans finished, Keith was fetched by the technicians to help his wife from the table. A message from the family on their GoFundMe explains the situation. “While my mother was lying on the table, the technician left the room to get her husband to help her off the table. He forgot to inform him to take the chain he was wearing from around his neck off when the magnet sucked him in.”
Stuck In The MRI For An Hour
For several minutes, Keith’s wife and the technician attempted to remove him and his chain from the machine. However, it was to no avail. Eventually, emergency services were called to the scene, but it took them over an hour to free him.
By this point, the stress had become too much. Attached to the machine by his chain, Keith suffered multiple heart attacks and lost his life in his wife’s arms.
The family has spoken out about his death, claiming that the situation was misreported by many outlets. “Several news stations are saying he wasn’t authorized to be in the room when in fact he was because the technician went and brought him into the room.”
They are claiming the blame does not lie with Keith. He was informed that, despite the huge metal around his neck, he was permitted into the MRI room.
