Raccoons may look like cuddly little bandits, but it’s good to remember they are wild and will attack.
While heading into her backyard to let her dogs do their evening constitutionals, a woman in Massachusetts got into a fight with a crazy raccoon. According to the report, she was minding her own business when the fuzzy terrorist launched itself at her, leaving her face scarred.
VanBuskirk reported that a raccoon jumped up at her, scratching her face and arms. She said that it also went for her feet and legs with its teeth. Shocked, she managed to fight the raccoon off, but not before she was left injured and shaken.
“It flew at me from several different directions,” she said, still shaken while speaking to WXIX. She managed to throw the horrible animal from her body and retreat into her home. Here, she picked up the phone and called 911. She needed an ambulance; who knows what the rodent could have been carrying on those teeth and claws?
Bins To Blame
VanBuskirk was taken to a hospital, where she was treated for her wounds caused by the angry raccoon. She was quickly given a rabies shot and some antibiotics to hopefully keep any infection at bay. Speaking of her experience, she said, “This is horrible. This is a nightmare. I kept saying it to myself because I couldn’t find any other words. I just encountered a monster.”
In her rush to get inside and call an ambulance, the woman had to leave her dog outside. She was unable to find it before the emergency services turned up. So, not only was she worrying about her scarred, bleeding body, but also her poor pup, left outside all night.
Thankfully, when she returned the next day, her dog was waiting to be let back in. Fat lot of good that dog was as a guard, though.
VanBurskirk suspects that the placement of her recycling and compost bins was to blame. She had them far too close to the back door, and it had attracted the angry, hungry raccoon. She says that she plans to move them far away from the house in the future. You never know, next time it could be a bear?
