By sheer good luck and keen-eyed staff, a woman has been rescued from imprisonment after leaving a note in a sandwich shop.
The woman, using the bathroom in a Jersey Mike’s Subs, took her chance and dropped a handwritten note by the toilet. Risking it all, she had made her plea for help. It could have so easily been swept away as trash, but a sharp-eyed staff member noticed it.
Eleanor Coffee, an employee of the sandwich shop, recalled how she spotted the note. “There was this little piece of crumpled-up paper that was shoved next to our toilet paper dispenser, and it looked like a piece of trash.” She explained how close she was to throwing away the plea for help on MYNBC.
Rather than just sweep it away, curiosity got the better of her, and it may have saved the woman’s life. Coffee read the crumpled, desperate plea for help. “She was like, ‘Please help me. I’m at this address in Navarre. I need you to call the police and do a wellness check.”
Police Are Called On Search For Sandwich Shop Note Prisoner
Consequently, the sandwich shop alerted the police to the note left by the desperate woman. Using CCTV and surveillance, they were able to identify her. They used her note and their systems to find where she had been held captive.
Jordan Williams, 34, was holding the woman against her will. He was known to police and already had a history of violence. They also found the woman who had claimed she was being imprisoned. Investigations revealed that she had suffered abuse and was suffering multiple wounds and broken bones.
Since then, she’s been taken to a local hospital for treatment. As a result, Williams is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping and false imprisonment, felony and misdemeanor battery, and battery by strangulation.
The desperate attempt to gain someone’s attention with a note paid off with the attentive sandwich shop employees. However, the note could have very easily been missed. Thankfully, this time it worked, and she will now be safe from her abusive partner.
