It’s already close to social rock bottom when it’s time to sign up for an ‘anti-loneliness’ club, but when even that turns out to be empty, it’s so much worse.
A woman on TikTok was struggling to make friends. In this day and age, despite our planet being full of people, loneliness is a real problem. For some reason, we’ve forgotten how to form bonds and socialize.
As a result, things like the ‘anti-loneliness’ club have started to crop up. The idea is to bring a group of people together and see if any of them gel. It’s a good way to meet people, and for some, it may be the first human interaction they have had in days.
So, 21-year-old Josie Stinson signed up for an anti-loneliness meet-up group in an attempt to make a new friend or two. She paid $12 for the ticket on Eventbrite and got ready to go.
Stood Up In A Sad Situation
Unsurprisingly, Josie was a little nervous. She was given very little information about where to meet people or what to look for. However, she did have a time and a date, and a restaurant location. “I thought, ‘Worst comes to worst. I have a nice meal at a place that I already like’,” she said in an interview with People. “The day comes, and I get a little nervous because I realized I got a confirmation email, so I know that I have my ticket, but there were no instructions on if we were meeting somewhere, or what to do when I got there.”

Showing her ticket to numerous staff, and asking what they knew, it appeared that the anti-loneliness club was an unknown. There was no booking, and even the manager hadn’t heard a thing about it. So, sitting at an empty table for six, she waited.
Nobody turned up. She was left alone and polished off two drinks in the meantime. According to her, even the manager called it one of the cruelest pranks he had ever seen. They brought her a little free cake as lonely compensation.
Making friends as an adult can be tough, especially for those who work remotely. But, things like clubs, be it climbing, reading, or naked bowling, are a fantastic way to meet people. Tickets to anti-loneliness clubs certainly aren’t it.
