Every so often, throughout life, you have to take a step back from what you’re doing and ask yourself; how did I end up here, and what on earth am I doing? I feel like the woman who just broke the world record of hanging by her ponytail probably had at least a few of those moments of reflection.
The ponytail hanging world record was beaten by Leila Noone, a multidisciplinary circus performer. She managed to hang from her hair for a total of 25 minutes and 11.3 seconds. She beat the previous standing record of 23 minutes and 19 seconds, set in 2019.
The bizarre performance took place in the California’s Redwood National and State Parks. The whole event was a bit of a show, too. As Noone hung from her ponytail, various other spiritual performers egged her on with words of affirmation. There was also, of course, some douchebag with an acoustic guitar. I imagine is he wasn’t there strumming half tempo covers of ‘Hey There Delila’, she could have managed much longer.
While hanging, she also did a number of spins and yoga poses. As someone who regularly suffers from back pain, I feel like I should grow what little hair I have left out so I can try. How it must stretch out the back and spine is amazing.
Pretty Ponytail Performance Part Of Repertoire
For Leila Noone, suspending herself from her ponytail is just one of many acts she’s perfected. As a multidisciplinary circus performer, she’s got a few tricks up her sleeve. As well as hair stunt, she also competes in American Ninja Warrior, and can do a few other amazing feats of acrobatic discipline.
Her acts of physical mastery include silks, balancing, sometimes including archery with her feet, and wild contortion. She was clearly already in the right career to learn to hand from her hair, but she said it still took two years of training.
Her circus show already featured hanging from her ponytail. But to do it for such a long time is a different thing altogether. I wonder how the old ponytail suspended world champion feels now their long held record has been smashed?
