Nothing beats a free Facebook marketplace find, especially when it contains a surprise worth hundreds of dollars.
House clearances on Facebook Marketplace are a great place to find a ton of fantastic furniture. A lot of the time, people don’t know what they’re getting rid of, and some gems can be scooped up for nothing.
24-year-old Stephen from California was on the hunt for a new filing cabinet to keep his art supplies. He spotted the house clearance and jumped at the chance to get his hands on some furniture. The long drive with his mum brought him to the house with ‘an everything must go’ situation happening. It was all for free, so he wasn’t picky.
“Initially, I was hesitant to get it because I wasn’t sure where to put it, but I took it because the lady there told me it was free,” Stephen recalled, talking about the fateful cabinet. “So I just put it in my mom’s van and came back home and moved it into my garage.”
Facebook Marketplace Haul Contained A Gold Mine
When Stephen got the filing cabinets home, he opened them up to start storing things and found some extras. Hidden at the back of one of the drawers was a tin containing a note and hundreds of dollars.
“Earlier today, I began storing my sketchbooks inside and took a peek at the inside,” he told a Reddit group. “That’s when I realized accidentally found 3 Altoid tins and a plastic bag with money hidden at the upper part inside.”
He couldn’t believe his luck. There was a total of $521 tucked away in the free Facebook Marketplace find. But, being the good person that he is, he didn’t immediately pocket the cash. Instead, he tried to reach out to the original owner of the filing cabinet.
However, so far, there has been no response, and the cash found in the Facebook Marketplace cabinets is just sitting there. A lot of the people, probably jealous, have been urging him to try his best to return the money.
However, I feel like if they’ve forgotten it for this long, it’s probably not their priority.
