The Old Testament gives remarkably specific measurements for the ark that Noah was commanded to build to protect all the land-based animals during the flood. This has given people who believe the story to be more than metaphor to have a vague notion of what it would look like. Using this knowledge, researchers believe they have found Noah’s ark in Eastern Turkey.
According to the bible, Noah’s Ark was to be built to 500 Royal Egyptian Cubits. This comes to more or less 500 feet. That’s not particularly large for a ship designed to carry all of the creatures of the world, two by two. But maybe that’s why he left the dinosaurs behind.
In 1959, Turkish Army Captain Ilhan Durupinar unearthed an enormous ship-shaped formation. It is in a mountainous region of Ararat. It is now known as the Durupinar formation. Looking at aerial photos, there is no denying that it looks remarkably like a ship.
However, it wasn’t until technology progressed that researchers were really able to examine what lay beneath. What they found has raised speculation about whether Noah’s Ark is actually beneath the Turkish countryside.
Scientists Collaborate To Unearth The Mysteries Of Noah’s Ark
In 2019, a group of researchers teamed up, involving both Turkish and American scientists, to uncover the mysteries of Noah’s Ark. They utilized ground-penetrating radar to see the composition of the ground around the formation.
What they found pointed towards the formation being a ship at some point. There are large cavernous areas hinting at decomposed timber support structures shown on the scans. To add to the mystery, the area is much richer in nutrients. This is associated with decomposing timber.
If the scans give enough evidence to warrant further investigation, the teams will be given the go-ahead to start core drilling and even excavation. Although there are many people sceptical that they have in fact discovered Noah’s Ark in Turkey, researchers are still excited by the findings.
Turkey is taking its time with the progress. They don’t want to jump the gun and perhaps destroy evidence of the most famous boat in Biblical history.
