After improperly docking his tractor-trailer, a 71-year-old man was crushed to death by the rolling vehicle.
Due to parking the tractor-trailer badly, the heavy trailer began to roll backward. Gene Bores, the man responsible for parking, attempted to stop it. However, his efforts were fruitless. There was nothing he could do to prevent it rolling backward.
With his body on the line, he was pulled beneath the tractor-trailer and fatally injured. According to WTAE, who reported on the tragic event, he suffered blunt force trauma to the head, neck, and pelvis. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The death, which is being ruled as an accident, was caused by an improper docking of the heavy tractor-trailer. It occurred at Cleveland Street near a Sherwin-Williams facility in Pennsylvania.
Locals Shocked By Tractor-Trailer Fatality
The incident has left locals appalled by the tragedy. However, they are also concerned for the safety of their families. Seeing how easily someone can be crushed to death by a mistake has them worried.
Local woman, Kristina Warnick, spoke to KDKA News about her concerns. “There are a lot of trucks and a lot of traffic during the day, so we try to keep the kids inside as much until after everything clears out.” Her fears for her children were also clear. “What if one of the kids were outside and it went rolling? So you know, it is scary.”
An initial investigation has been made into how something like this could have occurred. However, at present, it appears there was nothing wrong with the brakes of the runaway tractor-trailer that crushed its 71-year-old driver to death. However, a further investigation will be required.
Why the man put his body on the line in an attempt to stop the vehicle is anyone’s guess. I somehow doubt that he was trying to stop it with his own strength. It is more likely that he was unaware the trailer was rolling, and was instead caught in its path.
