While trying to lower the door of an enclosed trailer, a 71-year-old woman had her head crushed when the cables snapped.
The couple, who are unnamed, were in the garage of their house in DeLand, Florida. The husband, attempting to open the door of a container van, was operating the system. But it was faulty, and as it lowered, the cable snapped.
His wife, who was standing behind the trailer, was directly in the path of the falling, heavy door. As it fell, it crushed her beneath its weight. Her head was trapped underneath the trailer door. Her husband rushed to her aid.
There was no way to mechanically lift the collapsed trailer door from his wife’s head due to the damaged cable.
Desperate Attempts to Lift Trailer Door
The man first attempted to use his body to lift the door. But it was far too heavy for the 71-year-old. Instead, he opted for a jack, and he was finally able to free his wife. He pulled his mangled wife from beneath the truck, but it was already too late.
The elderly woman’s injuries were far too severe. By the time the emergency services had arrived, she had passed away. There was nothing they could do. The incident is being understood as an accident, and the local sheriff’s department has given its deepest condolences to the widowed man.
“Sheriff Chitwood and the entire Sheriff’s Office send sincere condolences to the deceased’s husband, family, and friends following this tragic accident,” they shared on Facebook. Others in the area, attached to the post, have also sent their thoughts and prayers after the fatal incident. Although I am not sure what the prayers will do. It’s a little late for that.
Despite the names of the couple not being shared publicly, the exact address of their home was, on the Facebook post. Anyone who felt like hounding the grieving old man after his wife’s untimely death from a trailer door knows exactly where he lives.
