When one person falls to their death from a hotel balcony its a shame, when two fall, someone needs to have a word with the architect
A hotel in Ibiza has seen two of its male customers take a tumble from balconies while holidaying on the party island. Gary Kelly, 19, and Evan Thompson, 26, both fell to their deaths only a few weeks apart.
The location, known as Ibiza Rocks, is both a hotel and a music venue. It is known for hosting huge parties, filling until way into the early hours. While standing on a third-floor balcony, Kelly went over the side, hitting the ground below.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, Kelly lost his life, as reported by La Vanguardia. Initial investigations don’t find any reason to suspect his death was suspicious. It was simply a case of drinking too much and fooling around on a third-floor balcony.
Only a few weeks before at Ibiza Rocks, another young man fell from a balcony and died. On July 7th, the 26-year-old Scotsman slipped over the railings of the hotel balcony and also lost his life.
Hotel Postpones Events In Wake Of Deaths
In response to the two accidental balcony deaths, the hotel and music venue, Ibiza Rocks, has halted upcoming events. “We are deeply shocked and devastated by the recent incidents that have tragically occurred. Our priority is to support those affected and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and to fully assist the authorities with their investigations. The safety and well-being of our guests has, and always will remain, our highest priority,” they posted in a statement.
The venue is a cornerstone of the Ibiza nightlife and has hosted some of the largest names on the island during its run time. This year marks its 20th year of being open on the island, and the lineup was looking to be a big one. However, as a result of the two men falling from the hotel balcony, many have been cancelled.
This month, Rudimental and Dizzee Rascal have all been cut from the lineup in respect for the two men.
