At blistering speeds, something is screaming through the void of space toward the general vicinity of Earth, and one scientist thinks it might be an alien-made object.
If it’s not asteroids, then it’s space junk, and if it’s not space junk, then it’s aliens. We can’t seem to catch a break. With the discovery of 3I/ATLAS, one scientist in particular is claiming that the space object is far too fast not to be made by aliens.
3I/ATLAS was originally spotted by the NASA-funded ATLAS survey telescope at Río Hurtado, Chile. It’s a fascinating object, travelling at an unfathomable 41 miles per second. It is also only the third interstellar object to be spotted by scientists. This means it came from outside of our solar system.
But this has got Harvard physicist Avi Loeb concerned. He believes that the evidence points towards this interstellar object possibly being unnatural. He believes that it could, in fact, have been made by aliens and fired across the universe.
We Need A Spring Clean Before Aliens Pop By
At the current projected route, there is little chance of a collision with Earth. But, for Loedb, this isn’t his concern with the unnatural space object. He says, in a Medium post, “There were claims of a tail. But since 3I/ATLAS is accelerating and its current size is not much larger than the angular resolution of Earth-based telescopes, it is not easy to avoid fictitious elongation of the image as a result of the object’s motion.”
Using his own scale, he says the likelihood of the newly spotted space object being unnatural is a 6/10. He claims that the apparent lack of gas emissions and perfect alignment with our solar system also point to its unnatural appearance.
Whatever the space object is, it has travelled unfathomable distances to reach our little tiny solar system. The scientist says this coincidence may not be down to complete chance. It may have been intentional.
At present, Earth is still very unprepared to welcome visitors. Presuming they’re friendly, we’ll have to lay a big spread on for them and make sure everything is looking presentable. At the moment, Earth is a disgraceful mess.
It’s a bit embarrassing.
