Having lived in a few countries where small motorcycles are the primary mode of transport, I have seen some phenomenal things carried on the backs of them. But, Australia, not being quite so lax with their motorcycle laws, has fined a woman for carrying her dog on her front using a TEMU harness.
The things it’s possible to carry on a motorcycle would blow your mind. I’ve seen families of five on 125cc motos. I’ve seen people carrying whole pieces of furniture strapped to the back. I have also seen a lot of people carrying dogs. Usually, they’ll sit across the tank, happily enjoying the breeze.
Dogs aren’t animals that feel much fear. It’s even possible to skydive with them without any particular stress. Usually, they’re just pleased to be involved. The dog strapped to the woman on the motorcycle looked happy as Larry. It got to be close to its human, have a good look at everything, and sniff the whole city. But, according to Australian law, that’s illegal.
Some countries allow their citizens to be their own judge of common sense. But others, like Aus, like to handhold. The Queenstown cop did his nannying duties and pulled the woman over for her dog harness daredevilry.
Dangers Of Driving Dogs
The Queensland police officer pulled over the woman driving her motorcycle with a dog strapped to her front. The fuzzy guy had his feet up, but she had complete control of the handlebars. However, according to their law, having a dog strapped to the front is illegal.
The woman informed the police that she didn’t know it was a crime. I guess the chance of distraction is a hazard? I have seen a few people in the US using backpack harnesses for little dogs. But that’s not as fun.
She was slapped with a $376 traffic fine for taking her dog for a motorcycle ride. “I know your dog is probably trained, but if he starts moving around or trying to chase stuff, anything could happen,” the officer said. “Then that’s obviously gonna cause you to crash.”
I mean. It probably isn’t.
