Having a wedding rained out is one thing, but being hit by a tornado is another altogether.
The Texas couple knew that there was a chance of severe weather for their wedding. But they decided to go ahead with it anyway. The booking had been made, the DJ had been paid for, and the event was going ahead, hell or high water. It turns out it was high winds they needed to look out for.
As the couple was snapping some pre-ceremony pictures before the big event, people’s phones started to ping with weather alerts. An uninvited guest was making its way to the wedding in the form of an incoming tornado.
The situation became dire when the civil alert siren started blaring, too. The DJ for the wedding looked back on the tornado warning. “I was nervous. From the patio, you could see the clouds rotating — made me a little sick to my stomach, if I’m being honest.”

She had previous experience with tornadoes, and she was getting flashbacks. “The town I live in was hit 10 years ago by a tornado and barely missed our home. I think in my head, ‘Would I rather it be at night when I can’t see anything, or as I was there in the daytime? If I saw it coming, what would I do?”
Terrific Tornado Turnout For Texas Wedding
As they say, ‘everything is bigger in Texas’. That goes for weather emergencies, too. There wasn’t just one tornado at the wedding, but a total of six on the Friday of their big day. One of them reached speeds of 110 miles an hour and tore through the state for 20 miles.
Thankfully, for the bride and groom, the rampant twisters didn’t hit the actual venue. “There were several tornadoes that hit in the area, one was about 20 miles away and the other touched down just about 10 miles past where we were,” the DJ said.
Most of the guests took cover in rooms without windows. However, according to the DJ, the men did what they always do in these situations. “Men, of course, had to stand on the patio to see if it was really happening. Most were listening to the news and watching the alerts on their phones.”
Thankfully, the tornado passed, and the wedding was able to continue.
