People love to perform pilgrimages to their favorite fictional spots, but a homeowner, plagued by Breaking Bad fans, has had enough and is finding crazy ways to keep people from their house.
The show was originally shot in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when the current owners’ mum still lived there. She gave the show permission to turn her house into the set for Breaking Bad. Little did they know, it would become one of the most iconic houses on TV for years.
As a result, people come to visit the house, hoping to relive a little of the Breaking Bad glory. But, it’s got to the point where the homeowner is sick of it. For her, the constant attention is an invasion of privacy. The fans don’t know where the line is, and she’s found ways to fight back.
Drawing The Line At Thrown Pizza
Initially, the attention gained from the show wasn’t too much of a hassle. People would pop by and shoot a picture. But one night, things took a creepy turn. At 4 am, a parcel was posted through their letterbox, addressed to Walter White. The unexpected gift resulted in a call to the bomb squad.
Enough was enough, and they put up a White House-style gate around the property. However, it didn’t stop the harassment. There have been a number of people trying to recreate the pizza scene from Breaking Bad, leaving the homeowner removing food from their house.
Now, Joanne Quintana, the owner of the Breaking Bad location, sits with her hose and sprays photo takers from her garden. She doesn’t mind the odd picture, but when they linger too long or get too close, she blasts them.
She’s got rules. “You can take a picture from that corner,” She has been seen shouting in a viral Instagram video.”Do not get close. And no tripods, no nothing. One picture, then you go.” People who don’t abide get sprayed.
I can sympathize with her. I wouldn’t want my home to be inundated by obsessed fans either. From the videos, it appears they have no sense of privacy. It’s either a case of turning the house into a Breaking Bad museum or a fortress.
