The US is as divided as it has been since its inception, with patriotic gestures from either side creating family-destroying rifts, and for this brother and sister, a choice of hat was enough to bring the house down.
The whole debacle was sparked when a woman’s brother decided to show up to her son’s Little League game with a particular patriotic hat on. No, it wasn’t the internationally despised MAGA hat; it was something a little different.
Emblazoned across the front of the headwear were the words “America F*@k Yeah.” Understandably, the mother of the kid wasn’t happy with it. The implied expletive use wasn’t appropriate, she thought, for the young crowd. So, asking him nicely, she requested he take the hat off.
But, being her brother, he didn’t like her telling him what to do with his patriotic hat. So, threw a bit of a tantrum. Reaching out online, she wanted to know if she was in the wrong for her request.
Is A Hat Request Out Of The Question?
Explaining how the situation went down, she said, “I asked him to take it off since there were kids all over and lots of people there I know. He protested, and I said it was embarrassing. He left and walked back to the car.”
But he took particular offence, and rather than apologise and take the hat off, he stormed off. She said she let him know via text that he wasn’t the embarrassing one, his patriotic hat was, but her brother was having none of it.
She wanted to know if she was out of line by asking him to take off the offensive hat in a place populated with children. The woman was worried she had been too pushy.
But I think everyone can agree that she wasn’t wrong in this situation. Curse words, even implied ones, are up to a parent to expose their kids to. Heading into an area of children with a hat with f*@k emblazoned on the front is intentionally obtuse.
But, when it comes to brother sister feuds, things often get far too heated far too quickly.
