It’s always hard to keep composure when a wasp is wasping around near your face, as a news correspondent discovered live on air.
The wasp in question had no respect for news correspondent Sara O’Kane or the heavy subject she had just reported on. The story on a triple homicide was cut short as the flying pest decided to get all up in her face. What should have been a somber and serious news piece ended up as a slapstick comedy.
Initially, as she wraps up the story, the wasp can be seen around the collar of her white t-shirt. Whether she doesn’t notice it or manages to stay calm is anyone’s guess. But, as she starts to bring things to a close, the stinging bug makes its way up to her face.
Nobody can be expected to stay calm in that situation, and the wasp went for it. It didn’t just hover around her face; it went straight for Sara O’Kane’s eyes. Just as the camera is about to cut back to the studio, the news correspondent caves, and she starts freaking out. She pulls some hilarious faces in an attempt to get away.
Inappropriate Wasp
The internet found the wasp pestering hilarious, but for the news correspondent, it wasn’t the attention she was looking for. She explained that she wasn’t aware that the cameras were still rolling. Despite her best efforts to stay composed, as it went for her face, she caved.

“I am now aware that ITN had not cut back to the studio. I held it for as long as I could, but that wasp was coming for my face. Please don’t let this moment take away from the devastating tragedy,” O’Kane posted to X.
The murder investigations were a tragic story. But, they were somewhat undermined by her wasp debarkle. Hopefully, it won’t have any negative effects on her career as a news correspondent. I don’t think anyone could be expected to stay calm with a wasp dive bombing their face, murder story or not.
