The police in New York were called to an apartment by the father of a 1-year-old baby, who claimed the child’s uncle had thrown her down a garbage chute.
The police arrived at 195 Steuben St. in Park Hill to find that a 1-year-old baby had been thrown down a garbage chute by a 39-year-old man. He was reported to be mentally disturbed, obviously. The father of the child had called the police.
The small baby was taken to Richmond University Hospital. However, despite falling three floors, the baby was remarkably unharmed. Falling the full distance, they only suffered mild abrasions to the torso. Somehow, they came out of the harrowing ordeal mostly without damage.
Twisted Man Detained
According to reports, the man who threw the 1-year-old baby down the garbage chute was her uncle. At present, he has not been charged, but is being detained. Neighbours were shocked to see the commotion happening outside the family’s door. Police were standing guard.
A neighbour, Milton Francis, spoke to CBS about the commotion. “I’m hurt. I’m just going to pray that God wraps his arms around his family and that they get through the situation.” They could hardly believe what they heard, knowing someone would do something so heinous.
“I’m lost for words right now because I’m just … a baby down a garbage chute is just … it’s absolutely mindboggling.” You never know who you’re living next to in a place like New York. Finding out a neighbour had thrown a baby down a garbage chute would be enough for me to move out.
The whole situation has put a dark cloud over the apartment complex. Another resident, living close to the deranged baby-throwing man, also spoke to CBS. “It makes me feel so depressed. It makes me feel bad about who can do a thing like that.”
There is no sane reason to throw a baby down a garbage chute. The man responsible was clearly completely out of his mind. Hopefully, he can receive the care and attention he needs.
