I’m all for unique baby names, but some of these are downright cruel.
Plenty of countries have baby naming laws for some reason or another. China has implemented one that ensures all names can be scanned and read by a computer.
People in Denmark have very strict baby naming laws. They can only select from a list of 7,000 pre-approved baby names. Any others have to be approved by the church.
But in the US, you can pretty much call your baby whatever you like. Just look at the absolute travesty of a naming situation Elon Musk has subjected his kids to. So, we end up with loads of crazy baby names.
Some of these are from parents‘ ignorance of the meaning or spelling. Some of them are simply because the parents are tasteless morons. Either way, the results are wild. A whole bunch of people have shared the weirdest, most bizarre baby names they have ever heard on Buzzfeed.
Baby Names The Child Will Resent Their Parent For Forever
One anonymous contributor shared one of the worst I have ever heard. “Peds nurse here! Baby was named Blessed Angle (parents pronounced it Angel because they thought that was the correct spelling of ‘angel’ and no one corrected them).” I think it’s cruel that nobody pointed out their mistake. We can’t all be literate.
Bad baby names can go a few ways. Some are hilarious and inoffensive, and some are just plain wrong. This one contributor had a perfect example of both. “I worked on both a pediatric and an adult cardiothoracic floor. On my peds floor, I took care of a toddler named Princess Sparkle Cupcake. On my adult floor, an 80-something man named Adolf Hitler. I truly felt for them both.”
Some people like to give their baby names that are unique simply for the complex pronunciation. “When I was a CNA, I was assisting a new mom. She couldn’t wait to tell me her baby’s name, but said she had to write it for me first. On the dry erase board, she wrote La-a. I asked how she pronounced La-a. She said, ‘It’s easy! LaDashAh.’ She wanted you to pronounce the dash. My face melted.”
As I said, unique baby names are a great way to help a child feel special. But, they can’t be completely ridiculous either.
