A female asian pilot was planning to fly around the world for the second time, but failed, and now she’s dead.
Anh-Thu Nguyen successfully became the 10th woman to circumnavigate the globe in a plane in 2024. Recently, she attempted to complete a second solo around-the-world flight, but was met with disaster only one day after setting off.
As she took off from Indiana, planning to reach Pennsylvania, her plane appeared to encounter trouble. Eyewitnesses said, “The plane was kind of going like this and banking, and then it started to lower.” Speaking to WSVN, they continued, “The nose dove, she went into a spin and just came straight down.”
Emergency services rushed to the site of the incident, where it was confirmed that a single-person aircraft had crashed. The single pilot, Nguyen, had also perished in the collision. “Upon arrival, firefighters found a small aircraft that had gone down directly behind the gas station,” the Greenwood Fire Department told PEOPLE, “the pilot, the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.”
“Preliminary information indicates the airplane crashed shortly after departure from Indy South Greenwood Airport.”
Her flight around the world was cut short before it even began.
Fateful Final Facebook Reel
Before she set off on her final ever flight, the pilot posted to Facebook, explaining how important the flight was for her. “This is more than just a flight, okay?” she began. “It’s a mission to inspire the next generation of Asian female pilots, aerospace engineers, and STEM professionals.” She then went on to explain the second leg of her journey and thanked a few people.
However, she never made her second around-the-world flight, and died shortly after shooting the video.
Her GoFundMe page highlighted her goals as a solo, around-the-world, asian pilot. “As the first Vietnamese woman to solo circumnavigate the globe, Anh-Thu’s mission is bigger than one flight—it’s about breaking barriers in a male-dominated industry and proving that women belong in the cockpit.”
Sadly, she lost her life in her second attempt at flying around the world. It doesn’t set much of an example for other female pilots.
