Looking out of your plane window to see a tornado approaching has to be rather unnerving.
For @thisgirltasha94 on TikTok, it was a reality. The clip, viewed 1.9 million times, shows the young woman gazing out of her seat window. Across the wide green fields of the US, a towering tornado can be seen ripping alongside the plane.
The tornado was a huge one, tearing up Denver at the time. The caption of the video says, “Hope all who were affected are OK and recover quickly!” There were a total of four tornadoes in Denver that Sunday, according to weather reports.
Thankfully, there were no deaths or injuries, but thousands of dollars of damage were done. These are not uncommon this time of year, but they can often be tragic.
Plane Flight Fright Safe From Tornado
Despite seeing a tornado from a plane being terrifying, it’s safer than you may think. The plane is more than capable of outpacing even the fastest ones. They are also able to fly either around them or over them without a problem.

Seeing a tornado from this angle looks like something straight out of a Hollywood movie. The sheer size of the natural phenomenon is visible, with it towering high into the air. “It’s near impossible to get a shot like this from a civilian aircraft! Wow! Prayers for everyone,” one commenter added to the video.
The plane in question didn’t need to divert away from the tornado. Everyone on board was safe, and the onboard staff had clearly done a good job reassuring everyone. Nobody sounded stressed. It really was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see something incredible.
In fact, the original poster said she wasn’t even aware of the huge tornado until another plane passenger showed her. “I wear noise-cancelling headphones, so I didn’t hear his announcement. But the guy beside me tapped on my shoulder to show me.”
I have flown through a few storms in my time, and sometimes the turbulence can be wild. I can’t imagine what flying beside a tornado in a passenger plane must be like.
