Disney has run so dry on original ideas that they’re even resurrecting Walt himself, and his family isn’t happy with the tasteless Disney World robot attraction.
To celebrate the Disneyland Resort’s 70th anniversary in July, the company created an animatronic robot of Walt. The robo-Disney was intended to live in the opera house on Main Street, USA. It is designed to give people an idea of what it would be like to be in Walt’s presence.
At present, it hasn’t been seen by many people, with Disney keeping their projects a secret. However, his granddaughter has seen it, and she hates with with a passion. “I think I started crying,” she recalled. “It didn’t look like him, to me.”
But Disney intends the animatronic robot Walt Disney to be their most lifelike yet. Most of the other animatronics are of characters. However, this has allegedly been meticulously put together to imitate his mannerisms and voice.
Robot Is An Unfit Representation of Walt Disney
Joanna Miller is typically quite quiet, but the robot version of her grandfather made her feel like she had to say something. “You just start to get pissed off. And you get tired of being quiet. So I spoke up on Facebook. Like that was going to do anything? The fact that it got back to the company is pretty funny,” she said to the LA Times.
Joanna then met with the current owners of the park and voiced her grievances. She claimed that Walt Disney asked for no robot animatronic versions of himself. However, they claim that’s all anecdotal. They say that’s all hearsay, and can’t be proven.
To make things worse, the family actually sold the rights to Walt Disney’s image, name, and likeness in the 80s. In a dystopian deal, the rights of a dead human were sold for a $46.2 million stock deal. This severed the family’s rights to their ancestor, leaving the current owners to do what they like with him.
So, despite the family complaining, the robot Walt Disney will most likely go ahead. There is little the family can do after selling their dead great-grandfather for money. Weird.
