A man who was more than 10% heavier than the weight limit of a Disney World water slide is attempting to sue them after becoming injured on the attraction.
Eugene Strickland is looking to scrounge $50,000 for an injury he sustained while riding a water slide in Blizzard Beach water park in Bay Lake, Fla. He claims that the incident left him with damage he is still dealing with four years later.
The enormous man was 334 lbs at the time he rode the water slide. This is significantly heavier than the 300-lb weight limit in place for the ride. Because of his excess weight, Stickland picked up far too much speed, causing him to become airborne and slam back into the plastic of the water slide.
As he rode the Downhill Double Dipper, a certain bump in the design of the water slide threw the large man into the air. As he came back down, his ring had moved from beneath him. Smashing back into the plastic of the water slide, he injured himself and wants to sue for it.
Overweight Water Slide Woes
The lawsuit against the Disney World water park states that Eugene “suffered serious bodily injury and resulting pain and suffering, disability, scarring, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life.” I have to say, being 334 lbs is already ticking all of those boxes, and he inflicted that on himself.
According to the lawsuit, he was injured on the water slide because of lax safety procedures. They believe that the staff should have spotted the massive man and forbidden him from riding.
However, can you imagine the outrage at any Disney World location if people were forced to prove their weight? The introduction of weighing scales before every slide or ride would cause a Disney adult revolution. I can almost hear the indignant, breathless, gasping.
Denying overweight people access to rides is a whole new kettle of fish. I am sure innocent ride attendees are not paid enough for that grief. Either way, the man is still looking to make some money from his overweight water slide injury.
