Finding a thrift shop bargain always brightens up a day, but discovering $400 in it will make a whole month better.
For one Reddit user, they hit the jackpot with a beautiful old bomber jacket they picked up. For starters, it was only $4 and featured real leather fur. It had rabbit fur for the lining, and the collar was genuine New Zealand possum. For $4, you could do a lot worse.
But, the real kicker came when they dug into the pocket and found $400 in their thrift store jacket. All of a sudden, the poster was hundreds of dollars up. They shared their windfall on the internet, and people chimed in with their congratulations.
According to the poster, the jacket was picked up in the electronics section of the store. Someone beforehand had obviously made a choice between second-hand electronics and the thrift jacket worth $400.
A Great Fit For Thrift Store Shopper
Not only was the original poster up $400, but they looked fly in the jacket, too. The old bomber was a perfect fit, made all the better for the extra tip left in the secret pocket. It’s not often that little extras like that are found in thrift store finds.
Usually, thrift store donations are thoroughly cleaned. This includes being sterilized, and all the pockets being cleared out. Somehow, though, this one had managed to slip through the net, to the benefit of the final buyer.
So, next time you’re out and about, make sure to give the pockets of your local Goodwill haul a rummage. You never know what could turn up when the donations come in. I doubt it’ll be anywhere close to $400, but even $5 wouldn’t be unwelcome.
Someone in the comment asked if the original poster had checked the dates of the $400 from the bomber jacket. It could have been possible to identify just how long it had been sitting in there. Who knows who left it there before donating it?
However, he hadn’t checked before cashing his windfall. The thought had slipped his mind.
