Before booking flights to another country for a wedding, it is probably best to check you’re actually invited.
Davide and Sarli were convinced that they were invited to a wedding in Argentina. One of Davide’s friends had sent out a save-the-date, and that was enough for him to book tickets. Trying to save some cash, the couple booked three months ahead of the wedding.
They found out that the wedding was going to be happening in Park Hyatt Buenos Aires, so they booked accommodation too. However, as the time for the big day approached, there was still no wedding invitation.
“Reality hit a few days before the trip when we noticed there were zero details coming our way — no schedule, no group chats, nothing. At that point, we slowly started thinking, ‘Wait… are we actually invited?’ ” Sarli told People.
Undercover Wedding Anti-Crashers
Realising their mistake, but not wanting to lose their booking, the pair decided there was only one thing to do. They would go on their holiday, in the same resort as the wedding, but they would stay undercover. They didn’t want to gatecrash the wedding, and they didn’t want to tell the couple.
So, without an invite, they stayed within meters of the wedding, ensuring they didn’t become involved. It took some high-grade planning and coordination to stay unnoticed. “We tracked their schedules like it was a mission,” Sarli shares.
“If we found out the wedding group was hanging by the pool, we stayed in our room or booked spa treatments. We ate super early or super late to avoid dinner overlap. We even planned random day trips just to make sure we wouldn’t randomly bump into anyone. And we even dressed weirdly so they would never even think that might be us.”
They managed to stay hidden from the wedding that they had no invitation to, while enjoying their holiday. Somehow, they avoided embarrassing themselves or the bride and groom. They also had themselves a nice, sneaky holiday from the whole thing, too.
It’s always best, before booking flights to a far-flung wedding, to double-check you’re actually invited.
