You can plan the location, you can plan the time, but there is no planning for clueless bystanders at a proposal.
Some people like to film their proposal, so that they can relive their special moment or show their friends. Honestly, it’s the least important part of the situation, and if set up wrong, it can give the game away. But it’s fair enough.
The problem with choosing a highly touristic spot is that there will always be tourists milling about. They’re usually unpredictable, understandably focused on the environment, and are not likely to be paying attention to phones set up to record.
A couple proposing in Santorini, Greece, had their picture postcard moment footage ruined by a pair of tourists, munching away on snacks.
Disturbed Proposal
Santorini, Greece, for those who don’t know, has become a tourist hotspot of late. The beautiful white houses and stunning views across the Aegean Sea make it the perfect, picturesque proposal location. But there is no accounting for the other tourists.
Melani and Arrieta were right in the middle of their big proposal in Santourini. He was down on one knee, the backdrop was idyllic, and she was about to say yes and put on the ring. Or so we presume. We will never know, because into the shot wander two strangers.
Filling the entire screen, the elderly man and woman stop, directly in the shot. Unaware of the proposal video they’re now the stars of, they gormlessly look around. The man in the shot even pulls out a candy bar to munch on.
“Our dream Santorini proposal accidentally turned into a candy bar ad,” Melani said in the Instagram caption. And, they’ve been good-natured about it. Speaking to Good Morning America, they said they would even like them to come to their wedding.
“We’re hoping all the spies in the comments can help us find this couple,” Melani said. “We’d love to invite them to our wedding, and we hope that they also think this is funny, like we did.”
It’s good they took it so well. They understood the risks and, honestly, ended up with a funnier proposal video because of it.
