A mystery is unraveling in India after a newlywed husband and wife went missing, with the wife suspected of killing him on their honeymoon.
Sonam Raghuvanshi was married to her husband Raja with family approval. They had not met one another before the wedding, but were quickly whisked away on a honeymoon to figure out how they were going to make it work.
However, four days after arriving in Meghalaya for their honeymoon, they disappeared. A week later Raja turned up, dead, with his throat slit. His decomposing body was pulled from a gorge, and he was missing his wallet, gold ring, and a chain. His wife was nowhere to be found, so the search continued for her and whoever was responsible for killing her husband.
Around 1 am, Sonam turned up at a small restaurant and asked to use the phone. Here, she called her brother and burst into tears. Police came to collect her within a few minutes.
A statement by the Meghalaya Chief Minister claimed they had made arrests and knew who killed the husband on their honeymoon. “Within 7 days, a major breakthrough has been achieved by the #meghalayapolice in the Raja murder case…3 assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, a female has surrendered, and the operation is still on to catch 1 more assailant. Well done,” he posted to X.
He implied that the wife had killed her husband by hiring local men. However, this may not be the whole story.
Father Of The Bride Claims She Is Innocent Of Killing Her Husband
Although the police seem to think that the bride hired men to kill her husband on their honeymoon, her father is unconvinced. “They did not do any inquiry. I am 100% sure that Meghalaya Police is involved in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi,” he told the BBC.
“Meghalaya Police is trying to trap Sonam in this case,” the distraught father says. “If a CBI inquiry is done, officials of the Police Station in Meghalaya will be behind bars.” He is fighting for his daughter’s innocence.
That’s just one of the many problems with arranged marriage. You never know who you’re going to end up with.
