If, by the 42nd proposal, she’s still saying no, it’s time to give up before she files for harassment. However, in this case, one man proposed until she gave up and said yes. It hardly bodes well for their ‘happy marriage.’
There is a trait known as love bombing, in which someone will shower their partner with love, affection, and proposals. It is unearned love, and often comes way too early in a relationship. Lovebombing is a glaring red flag and is typically a sign that someone is a narcissist, anxious, or insecure.
Proposing to someone 43 times, with the first being only six months into the relationship, is archetypal love bombing. Sarah didn’t recognise the signs the first few times Luke Wintrip proposed, and she still hasn’t, it seems.
Relentless Romance
The first time Luke proposed to Sarah was in 2018, but she promptly turned him down. It had been only six months for the two of them, and that’s hardly long enough to know if you want to spend the rest of your life with someone.
“I loved him, but I didn’t want to say ‘yes’ to something I later retracted,” she said. “I just said, ‘No, we’ve only been together for six months.” But he wasn’t deterred.
Until now, when she finally caved to his relentless battering of proposals, he had asked her to marry him 42 times. In typical lovebomb fashion, they were all extravagant ones, too. He took her on horse rides on the beach, to castles in Prague, and on romantic candlelit dinners. But, 42 times she turned down the weirdos proposal.
Browbeaten by his incessant proposals, she finally told him she was close to breaking point. “Next time you ask, I’m going to say yes, but just you wait,” she said. That was enough for the man.
His final proposal was clearly scraping the bottom of the barrel. He took her to Greenwich in South London. This is where the GMT is based, and is considered the home of the Mean Time. Here, he got down on one knee and spewed the stomach-turning line, “This is the centre of the world and you are the centre of the world and I want you to marry me.”
And so begins a marriage I have full faith will last the test of time.
