Amanda Liberty of Leeds, England, truly found the light of her life on Valentine’s Day when she proposed to her favorite chandelier while continuing an “open relationship” with her 25 other chandeliers. “You can’t control who you fall in love with and things just went from there,” Liberty told The Sun.

She says that when she first saw her fiancée, “Lumiere,” on eBay last year, it was love at first sight and she immediately knew she had to have the 30-inch wide chandelier shipped to her from Germany. “I couldn’t stop thinking about her and how beautiful she was — she has such a beautiful shape, and I could feel really amazing energy coming from her,” Liberty said. “Although I knew it would be tricky to get her home, I knew I needed to find a way to make her mine.”

Liberty self-identifies as “objectum sexual,” which is defined by Health Guidance as “an unusual psychological phenomenon in which an individual feels powerful affection toward a particular inanimate object.” She says her first love was a drum set at 14 years old and she was also previously in love with the Statue of Liberty, causing her to legally change her name in 2010 as well as travel to New York City six times to visit. She says the distance took a big toll on their relationship.

Though Lumiere is the only chandelier that gets a ring, Liberty says she truly does love all the light fixtures in her collection. “None of my chandeliers are jealous of each other, they understand that I love them all for all of their different personalities,” she told Inside Edition. “For example, I love kissing and cuddling Lumiere, but I sleep with Jewel every night, as she is portable and very nice to cuddle.” Liberty reports that the first chandelier she ever bought, Luna, helped her discover her affinity for lights that hang.

What do you think of this story? Should people be allowed to engage in relationships with objects, or is it abnormal behavior? Could such an attraction indicate some other mental illness? Or is it harmless and silly? Let us know in the comment down below!
